Listener comments!

  9:04am zedprophfer:

First comment! WOOHOO!
  9:19am cara:

thnx for playing the beau hunks little rascals music
  9:22am jonathan:

space is the place you know.
  9:40am A. Johnson:

Doug, Please let us know when the version of Summertime was recorded. I am always especially interested to hear Porgy and Bess tunes recorded before the "return" of that music in the '50s.

Thanks
  9:40am Bad Ronald:

This song is even funnier en Espanol!
  9:40am Paul Sherratt:

I'm wondering if this Manuel " Loco " Valdes song was one of Franco's favourites ? ( Not le grande maitre, obviously ! )
  9:42am Paul Sherratt:

... le grand !
  9:45am Doug:

A. Johnson:
I wish I could provide details on Enrique Herrera's version of
"Summertime." The compilation I have offers no info. When I included that track on a Marathon Premium a few years ago, I did some Internet snooping and couldn't find any info. Maybe something has been posted since.
  9:55am Cecile:

what did I miss last week> ;D
  10:02am Cecile:

Dude...Doug, you're a Geminoid like me. No wonder I liked your show. :D

I turn very old tomorrow.
  10:05am Parq:

'Cile, HBD from your very old cohort. Everybody, the photo on the home page today says it all.
  10:07am Cecile:

thankee, Parq!
  10:07am Bad Ronald:

Yes Happy BD C!!!
  10:09am north guinea hills:

this song reminds me i need to invest in more beer cozies of various sizes (40 oz beer cozies, anyone?)
  10:11am Bad Ronald:

Lovin' the honky tonk set!!!
  10:11am Cecile:

I think that perhaps the Chihuahua needs a little bit less spicy diet. I'd hate to be cleaning that up.
  10:17am Mike:

best show on the radio, no comparison...
i guess the internet is good for something as it's been about 13 years since my radio could pick up FMU's signal. thank you doug, for bringing something beautiful to friday morn
  10:17am Cecile:

As my dad said about Hank Snow:

"You can't beat an old s**t-kicker".

In Finnish, his name is Heikki Lunta, the subject of an old Upper Michigan joke,
  10:35am Carmichael:

Tiffany Shade!!
  10:43am Hugo:

Ah, this is the part of the show where Doug morphs into Tony Coulter. It's only a matter of time, I suppose, before we get to hear the Edgar Broughton Band or Savage Rose or Burnin Red Ivanhoe ...
  10:45am Carmichael:

Nothin' wrong with that, Hugo. I'm staring cross-legged at the lava lamp, diggin' the righteous tunes.
  10:45am Ken:

I echo Mike's comments. Except I quibble on one point. The internet -- what about all the funny pictures of people getting hit in the head? Isn't that worth something?
  10:48am Cecile:

Or the funny dog videos?
  10:50am Doug:

Hugo,
Two of my favorite words in the English language are "Tony" and "Coulter."
  10:55am Parq:

Without the Internet, we would never have had the Dancing Hamsters or Badger-Badger-Badger. 'Nuff said.
  10:59am Carmichael:

Or the fat kid doing the Star wars light saber dance.
  11:02am Hugo:

Doug,

my most recent purchase is a John Stevens lp (with Bobby Bradford), but that should come as no surprise, least of all to you. Never heard that SME before, btw ... hmmm ...
  11:12am Toby:

My buddy John Kruth and longtime friend and collaborator w/The Masked Announcer (aka Joel Dorn) will be co-hosting an audio tribute to the late producer WKCR this Sunday afternoon. I saw Joel last summer. He told me something great: "I was always determined to fail on my own terms." Listen up...
  11:16am Hugo:

Soft Heap - that should be Elton Dean, then. Never heard this one, either ...
  11:18am Doug:

Toby,
Joel Dorn paid me the greatest complement I've ever had in my musical life. (He mentioned me in the liner notes to a Yusef Lateef reissue. Yusef being, of course, my all-time musical hero, guru and rabbi.) For that (and a thousand other reasons) I will always love Joel Dorn.
  11:19am Mike:

i'm simply a bitter computer user. I can't say i've seen fat kids doing light saber dances, but it doesn't sound sweet...
anyway, i am happy to have re-connected with the fmu weirdness, not to mention great people like doug (when is lincoln appearing again?) and the likes of BA listeners like Hugo.
  11:26am Hugo:

Mike, stay reconnected!
  11:29am Miki:

Hey Doug,
We just met with Hugh Hopper in France, playing with the Canterbury Legends! What a lovely man and with such a soft touch on the bass...more to come!
Cheers!
  11:32am Parq:

Just saw a guy on Madison Ave in a Pulaski Skwy teeshirt. Greeted him and said I was on way to listen to FMU myself. But I'm in business drag, so I don't know if he believed me. Maybe he'll see this post.
  11:33am Cecile:

johnny dyani!
  11:42am Hugo:

The Dyani duet should be "African Bass" on the Red label, out of Italy? If so, got it ...
  11:50am mike:

poly - rhythm loveliness... how can anyone listen to 'pop-music' when master work like 'Odeiyolaoo" exist?
  11:51am Cecile:

sometimes I like candy and sometimes I like a real meal.
  11:54am Parq:

What 'Cile said. I don't confine myself to one flavor of ice cream, so why should I do so with music?
  11:57am north guinea hills:

i consider pop music to be anything that approaches having a melody and repeatable recognizable rhythms , so, i would consider this pop music....

top 40 is another scoop all together.
  11:58am mike:

alright, alright... britney spears vs. Enrique Herrera
