Listener comments!

  9:01am Ghengis Jung:

Buenos Dias Ken!
  9:01am Negator:

Good Morning,Ken. THis is larry.
  9:02am listener mark:

Good Morning Ken
Good morning Everyone
  9:02am Negator:

Ever heard that song, 'My name is Larry'. It's an old novelty song. I heard it on the Dr. Demento show in the 70's.
  9:03am cribley:

Bom dia!
  9:03am annie:

morning all.
  9:05am Parq:

'Gator, that's a great song. Even better, though, is his seasonal offering, "I'm a Christmas Tree" ("People hang their ornaments on me / And throw me out on New Year's Eve")
  9:06am Ken:

Morning all! I know that's not really Larry because he doesn't know how to use computers. That's why he still mails me cassettes.
  9:06am Bruce from Capitol Hill:

Morning Ken, morning (afternoon and evening) all.
  9:06am Webhamseter Henry:

Whoa Ken! I was just playing this Anna Homler yesterday! Let's play all WFMU hits from the late 90s!
  9:10am Cecile:

Are we talking about Wild Man Fischer?
"Oh God, please send me a kid! I could buy it a donut every day!"
  9:11am listener mark:

nachgemachter larry
  9:13am Parq:

The very one, 'Cile. I confess, I'm unfamiliar with the number you've just quoted. My loss, to be sure.
  9:15am Cecile:

I think it's on an old Rhino collection, the best of WMF
  9:16am Ken:

Woohoo!!! It looks like my new laptop is working with the new soundcard!!!
  9:17am Ghengis Jung:

Sounds great from here!
  9:17am JJZ:

Laptops have soundcards?
  9:19am Ken:

Yes, and Dell laptops have really crappy soundcards, I have learned.
  9:19am JJZ:

At least, non-integrated ones?
  9:19am Lizardner Dave:

Gotta take the " off the end of the link to that underpants picture to make it work....
  9:20am Laurie:

Good morning, Ken!
  9:21am Negator:

Never heard the 'Christmas tree' one. I'll be looking into that. Did he have a name other than 'Larry'.
  9:22am Lizardner Dave:

...and the math question I had to answer to post my previous comment added up to 666. Merry Krampus indeed.
  9:23am Mark:

click for the full policy dont work
  9:27am Parq:

Mark, go up to the url line and delete the noise characters after "jpg". Dave, my favorite is when the math questions yields airplanes, like "747".
  9:27am fishmonkeystew:

My 86 year old french-canadian great aunt owns and operates a slaughter house. It made for some strange childhood memories......
  9:28am JCityJensen:

Morning Ken! What kind of computer u got...
  9:28am Mark:

Ah ha!!
  9:29am Intel Macs:

we suck too
  9:29am Negator:

You're gonna play that Waitresses song, 'Christmas wrapping paper'
  9:31am Bad Ronald:

Morning everyone. Anyone here in violation of the Pants Policy?
  9:32am fishmonkeystew:

What exactly is the "Pants Policy"?
  9:33am fishmonkeystew:

Oh, wait. To the left, right? I think I need more caffeine.
  9:33am Bad Ronald:

http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/KF/2008/12/10/pantspolicy_big.jpg

Full exposure will earn you a spanking!
  9:35am listener mark:

le suicide est indolore
  9:36am detroitdave:

Morning Ken, I see you found our pants policy for the Detroit mayor.
  9:36am Lizardner Dave:

I feel like I've tuned into the opening of an anime version of M*A*S*H
  9:37am Cecile:

detroitdave, who is currently filling the empty mayor vacancy in the Motor City?
  9:38am cribley:

Anime MASH would be sweet. I can see Radar getting a gushing bloody nose ever time he sees a pretty girl.
  9:39am JCityJensen:

re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba re bab bob ba ba
  9:40am Parq:

Somebody would make a crack about Hot Lips and she would do one of those bug-eyed freakout takes.
  9:40am detroitdave:

City counsel member Ken Cockrel. He wears his pants correctly.
  9:41am Vicki:

nice Puffy remix!
  9:42am Cecile:

whew!
Good to know.
  9:46am Bad Ronald:

Thanks for The Box link Ken!
  9:47am annie:

BR-what if i don;t have pants? is there a dress/skirt policy variant?
  9:48am Ken:

Phew! My playlist computer died on me! Egad. The full pants policy is again working, and I expect everybody to abide by it!
  9:48am Bad Ronald:

Hah Annie, I guess it would apply but in the opposite direction!
  9:50am Cecile:

I have no idea what Jinx Lennon is ranting about, but long may he wave.
  9:52am Vicki:

he used my fart noise
  9:53am Negator:

No, it's MY fart noise.....
  9:53am paulthepostman:

Good afternoon Ken and the world and the UK is pants friendly.
  9:54am Negator:

Vicki, are the Bran Flakes 'Avant Retard'?
  9:57am Swami:

As usual Ken, I'm loving the show. Why oh why do I schedule clients for Wednesday mornings? HAte to go, but I gotta.
  9:57am Vicki:

there are many strains of Avant Retard, but yes they are
  9:57am Bad Ronald:

The kid in the "I Have Hands" slot is killing me!!!
  9:57am Cecile:

this stuff is kind of pitchy, dog.

Could we get something on the lower end on the sonic spectrum?
  9:58am Father Christmas:

Do not fuck with me!
  10:01am cribley:

Wish (Komm Zu Mir) - Franka Potente/Thomas D.

That's a great flick.
  10:01am paulthepostman:

Hi BR - howyadiddling?
  10:01am Doug from DC:

Wish is by Franka Potente & Thomas D, according to the internets.
  10:02am listener mark:

On the group W bench,"What were you arrested for kid?" "Pants." I said. And they all moved away from me.
  10:02am Doug from DC:

Ah, beat me to it.
  10:02am annie:

oboy, do i feel great today. i am getting so much work done. wow.. and i'm sure it's not the coffee... i have even properly hiked an offending skirt waistline. is there a window of co-operation for offenders? hey PTP
  10:03am Negator:

UH!
  10:05am bzul:

Pants goin' south and skirts north....should I be paying $2.99 a minute to...experience...the comments today?
  10:07am Bad Ronald:

Hey PtheP! Doing well and you? Are you gonna try to meet Cosmic when he's in Brighton?
  10:07am annie:

i saw a truck driver unloading one afternoon and my god, talk about peddaling crack!! and i know he was in direct violation of the no-underwear clause. sat there waiting for his trou to drop..
  10:08am Ken:

There'll be a ton of record dealers to arrest at the next WFMU record fair...
  10:09am detroitdave:

It's a moneymaker for sure Ken!
  10:10am Cecile:

Ok, is it me, or are most edgy rock videos these days impossible to watch? I tried the MTV subterranean thing, and the Logo NewNowNext shows, and either it's this quick cut pastiche of cheezy 70s/80s images that dang near give you epilepsy, or people with exquisite shag haircuts in grimy surroundings of stained concrete and rusted razor wire that were a lot funnier when they showed up in 90s German pop videos. That shit makes that one Romeo Void video look like genius. I feel old.
  10:10am paulthepostman:

Hi Annie - 'Evening of The Parents' wet, I mean went, well!

BR......for it is written in the firmament that we will collide!
  10:11am annie:

good to hear PTP.
  10:14am Negator:

This Mmm, Betty! is fabulous!
  10:19am annie:

ok two things: i joined several variations of fmu groups on facebook. i am loving betty botox. and.. i really have to make breakfast. (love the crying santa)
  10:20am Cecile:

ITA, Ken!
But we can keep the Nutcracker ballet in the Crampus canon. It's got rats, delusions, drunkenness and violence. I adore it...it's so pagan.
  10:20am pseu:

Hi Ken - You know I've been doing that real-time search reading for many years on my show, right? I'm flattered!
  10:20am Lizardner Dave:

Ken, how do we know that Automated Beacon is actually Google and not some other search engine? I dug around that site and couldn't find any specific documentation.
  10:21am annie:

i think kenny should sing the google search on his show
  10:25am Ken:

I apologize Pseu, I was not aware you read from Automated Beacon. I thought you read from the most popular, ranked google terms.
  10:27am Ike:

Soulseek is nifty, ain't it?
  10:28am Max:

I didn't realize you all were so territorial!
  10:29am TOm:

Great show Ken! Has FMU ever thought about putting together a holiday collection of music?
  10:29am fatty jubbo:

I am actually awake early enough to listen to the show in real time!
I am glad you got your PC working well again- your show sounded as if it was coming through a tin can for many weeks.
I am glad you are a Celtic Frost and Flipper fan, Ken.
  10:30am wha?:

I'm sure this has been discussed before and I missed it, but the Jud Jud intentionally similar to Balinese monkey chant?
  10:30am paulthepostman:

Hi Cecile - yeah, like, what are those vid directors on? They don't tickle my finely honed fancy either.
  10:31am cribley:

This guy sounds like Fry from Futurama.
  10:31am risky!:

these santa pics are pure gold! ahahahahahaha!
  10:32am Laurie:

Are you as excited as I am about the Kids in the Hall reunion thingy? SO EXCITED!
  10:32am Mark:

What! no bass!
  10:32am Todd 76%:

Ken,
Was that a cover of Furious Pig's "I Don't Like Your Face" you just played?!?!
  10:33am Ken:

Damn! I blew the dump!
  10:35am paulthepostman:

Ken , what genres of music was that Bruce McCulloch song?
  10:36am Ghengis Jung:

"Blew the dump?"

Can you say that?
  10:37am Cecile:

PtP, I mean, there have to be visual references besides Saw movies and Duran Duran videos. There's a big world out there....
  10:39am Vicki:

this is the opposite of pure genius, which is really good
  10:39am Bruce McCulloc:

...yet, sometimes it is like a village...
  10:40am Bruce from Capitol Hill:

Wing!!!!!!!!!! All's well again. Thanks Ken.
  10:40am Negator:

Yoko sounds great. I didn't know she did a covers record.
  10:41am paulthepostman:

Cecille - I said that.
  10:42am Lizardner Dave:

This was on the FMU twitter feed, but I think it bears repeating here since one of the artists on the list is Don McLean. http://tinyurl.com/6njngo
  10:42am annie:

did god create santa in his own image?
  10:42am paulthepostman:

about the village... too much Chianti!
  10:43am Lizardner Dave:

...and this time my math answer was 667, which is the number of the guy who lives across the street from The Beast.
  10:43am annie:

and have you noticed that they are never in the same room at the same time?
  10:44am Vicki:

664 is the number of the man who looks after Satan's packages
  10:45am paulthepostman:

annie, now I think about it...!
  10:46am annie:

see what i'm sayin?? and that satan dude, too!!!
  10:47am annie:

probably why they all climb in and out of the chimbley, want to avoid attention.. pixie dust comes in handy for that.. or hide on your cereal.
  10:47am Lizardner Dave:

@Vicki - good one. And this version of Mull of Kintyre is fantastic.
  10:48am Vicki:

thankee
  10:48am Negator:

Didn't Iron Mainden tell us a little something about the digitz '666'?
  10:50am paulthepostman:

Annie - I believe Santas are Sufi in origin.
Is that perceived as a blasphemous thing to say over there?
  10:51am Vicki:

I think this Scot is swearing
  10:52am annie...:

all a matter of perspective PTP. i for one love to think that santa is in fact god.... not god-as-we-see-him..how can anyone so benevolent be bad? and we have this god that allows death and destruction? i prefer santa for my god..
  10:52am Carmichael:

Good morning, interesting people.

Any conversation that begins with Wild Man Fischer and includes Stereolab as background music is absolutely A-O-friggin'-K with me.
  10:52am Ken:

It's a right good thing the Scots dont speak English!
  10:53am annie:

here ya go PTP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSEd5WiWmPQ
  10:54am Carmichael:

Ken, how about some Longines Symphonette?
  10:55am annie:

cecile, i got a 36 gallon drum for my compost barrel. and it was a "found object" woohoo..
  10:55am Lizardner Dave:

This bed music can only mean one thing...it's the month of ZATEMBER!
  10:55am Vicki:

nice loop
  10:56am Cecile:

I want the crazy uncle from the Nutcracker as my God. The hallucinations you get hanging around him are the best!
  10:59am bbell:

Ken-
Krampus is very scary (I am sure you know that he comes into town to "birch" the young women). Here are three more frightening figures from Iceland that terrorize the villages before the solstice: Jolkattur (yule cat), who eats those who haven't done their work during the year, and the couple Gryla and Leppaluthi who eat children who have misbehaved. Even in Pagan times they have been trying to control the masses with threats.
  11:00am Parq:

Charm, thanks for renewing the Wild Man Fischer thread. Negator, I never got around to telling you, his real full name is (appropriately) Larry Fischer, and the lore is that Frank Zappa discovered him street-singing, back when it was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Passerby as drunken (or drug-addled) muttering.

La:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Man_Fischer
  11:01am paulthepostman:

Annie, I needed that - I'm laughing my pants off, still !!!
Quite poignant too, annie...from 1999 thru to 2003 I was living in Cairo!
And! I recorded one of those 'singing puppets as our answer phone jingle!!!!!!!!!!!
  11:02am Carmichael:

Isn't there a Santa in the Netherlands with a Moor sidekick, who puts misbehaving children in a sack and sends them to Spain?
  11:02am sebastian in santiago:

you know, santas are globally distributed. it doesn't make all that much sense to go around in red fur when it's 30º, but that's the way we have it down here. oh, and the snow flakes. they're made of cotton.
  11:04am annie:

see PTP, they have many others, democratically availing other langauge versions..
  11:04am GP:

Bookmarking this set for later...Good morning, all Busy day here.
  11:05am Doug in DC:

A free vacation in Spain would be all the motivation I need to be as bad as possible. But yes, the Dutch Santa's sidekick is Black Peter, I believe.
  11:05am jan:

where is Jim Price these days? That was a good show...when did that show broadcast.
  11:07am paulthepostman:

Sufis are/were Muslim hippies.
  11:07am Doug in DC:

IMDB is saying March 2009 for the t.A.T.u. movie:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1046171/
  11:09am Ken:

March 2009? Are you sure? They originally said March 2008. Is this some kind of a joke?
  11:10am annie:

PTP akin to episcopalians? some break-away madness?
  11:10am jjohn:

I was only half-listening (at work after all) so I thought you were talking about this: http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0585657/
  11:13am jjohn:

if they could somehow COMBINE the two...
  11:14am Doug in DC:

That's it, the Tatoo movie should be about two French dwarves who go to Russia to meet t.A.T.u. You and I, ...and the plane, the plane!
  11:17am Laurie:

Speaking of homosexuals: Gays and people who like gays, don't buy anything today or go to work. Call in gay. Today is the day without gays.
  11:18am annie:

look at how that teacher is grinning gleefully at the santa....
  11:19am Ken:

Thanks Doug! That info wasn't there even a few days ago... now I have something to live for, other than my wife and kids and satisfying job and all my dear dear friends.
  11:19am paulthepostman:

Annie - the singing puppet thing I recorded was an Egyptian Felaheen (of the countryside) repleat in long, striped, baggy shirt, holding a staff, sitting cross legged. I have a spare one (we bought so many) if your sensibilities allow!
  11:20am Krampus:

What manner of Santas are these?!
  11:21am annie:

send me a link PTP...
krampus, you tube had santas of all kinds singing drunkenly with batteries attached.
  11:22am Doug in DC:

Sufi Santa is on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmJ6ScpccVY
  11:22am annie:

and another...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSEd5WiWmPQ
  11:23am cribley:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the best.
  11:24am annie:

what's with the sunglasses?? are they all plastered.. i loved that movie "bad santa"
  11:26am Miss Buxley:

Be careful Ken. Dont say anything Psue might say.
  11:27am paulthepostman:

Bad Ronald - will you perhaps acquire seasonal santa sympathies?!
  11:29am Bad Ronald:

Coal! Every year it's coal and a rock!
  11:30am annie:

all i can see is john cleese dancing around in his underwear..
  11:32am Parq:

The Santa accompanying "Vert" is . . . words fail me.
  11:34am paulthepostman:

Bad Santa - That sounds funny, but I don't really understand!
Annie - Awesome image, that!
  11:35am Ken:

I think these are Eastern Orthodox Santas.. but I'm not sure.
  11:35am annie:

it's from a fish called wanda, one of my fave movies...
  11:37am GP:

I think that Don Bartnick Santa is George Clinton
  11:38am annie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ4HG2V165s

one of the best scenes
  11:39am Laurie:

These Santas are almost worse than that scary rabid rabbit Santa thing. But this Koushik song is lovely.
  11:39am Melissa:

OMG! Is that the Santa from Vendetta?!
  11:40am Laurie:

I recently learned that they don't have Santa in Central and South America, by the way. They have the baby Jesus. Booooooooooo-ring.
  11:41am fatty jubbo:

let me tell you- I work at some movie theater and every year we have five days of Christmas shows...double features of It's a Wonderful Life and White Christmas. I dread this time of year. We have a gay Santa that leads a 'rousing' sing-along for all the midwestern moms and kids- the only part of the ordeal I truly savour. Last year Santa threw in some anti-Bush Xmas song parodies and I had to placate some frenzied old corpses about it.
  11:42am grubbus:

haven't heard this song since my days of bong hits @ WPU
  11:44am annie:

i think this time of year brings out the best and worst of people's fears and idiosycracies.
  11:44am GP:

Voodoo economics!...yea
  11:46am Sean Daily:

Not even close to first comment! Woo hoo!
  11:46am annie:

google in the uk.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/pda/2008/dec/10/googlethemedia-searchengines
  11:47am Parq:

I expect to be seeing the "Home - Rising Tide" picture in my night terrors for months to come.
  11:47am paulthepostman:

Annie, yeah, isn't that great! Christmas is pure Vaudeville.
  11:48am Laurie:

I also love this Barbara Morgenstern song.
  11:50am Ken:

Everybody should let me know what you want under the tree for next week's Krampus extravaganza.
  11:50am annie:

you could make a great video or recording of all the dysfunctional conversations at the meals of all these celebrants.. starting at thanksgiving and ending at the end of chinese new year.. what a great project... neuroses unlimited..
  11:52am Lizardner Dave:

Some Elakeliaiset would be great for Krampus Christmas! Or Rush. Whichever.
  11:53am Cecile:

Korpiklaani. They have a great song where they sing about warriors falling upon the missionaries that hit the shores of Finland: "Today is not your day".
  11:54am trrrrish:

Is there any place where xmas is celebrated and it never spills out beyond a week? or even twelve days?
Anywhere?

It's so damn tedious already.
  11:56am Doug in DC:

Think tanks going out of business? We're saved!
  11:56am Cecile:

the song is called "Rise"
  11:58am HotRod:

Hiya!
  11:58am Laurie:

There's no shortage of Christmas compilations from my favorite twee labels. Él! Siesta! Total Gaylord! Fortuna Pop! Kindercore! Animal World!

Also, I like the Asobi Seksu cover of that Ramones Christmas song.
  11:58am Bad Ronald:

Yay! Flaming Carrot!!!
  11:58am A Think Tank:

Think about it.
  11:59am HotRod:
