i have some slightly good news... i may have acquired some real employment at a place which suits my taste.. a small farm cafe... starting a few weeks ago i picked up a couple days a week there... it's not great, but i just got handed 80 bucks last night.. i've also been working for barter, so the cash is a sweet thing..seems the work will continue and there may be more biggerer betterer stuff in december.. .... FMU gets some of this windfall next fund-raiser!!!

I am indeed on hurricane watch. No idea how much rain we'll get, but PSE&G drops power when someone burps too loudly, so I anticipate a flicker or two. Raided the local Trader Joe's for jugs of water, protein bars, and bananas, and charged the iPod (loaded w/ GTDS eps of course). Ready for action!

By the way, you could always count on Thai bands doing a decent version of "Black Magic Woman", Santana-style. Generally, as far as cover versions go, Filipino bands are the best in that part of the world.

Other's have reported the same problem. (It may be that we have maxed out the number of simultaneous listeners. I'm not sure what that number is.)

I've been using Quicktime, which came with iTunes. It's been working flawlessly.

For a decent free and open source route, there's VLC. http://www.videolan.org

VLC is a very versatile player which can handle most audio and not the least most video formats. I use it mostly for the latter.

I like Winamp, VLC, and Foobar2000. Foobar is tiny, hardly eats any memory, and sometimes even operates on a locked-down work 'puter where you're not allowed to install programs. Not ideal for playing MP3s, better just for playing streams. Winamp is bigger, more full-service.

Thanks for the calibration info, Paul. I know that there is a serious delay between when I say or play something and when people hear it. I let the backing music run an extra minute or so before switching the live feed off. Good to know!
