GIVE THE DRUMMER PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Almost 10 years ago, Bart and I did an all-yodeling show on the publication of his first book on the subject. See the playlist: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Doug Schulkind:

  6:00pm ?:

  6:01pm bart:

  6:02pm bart:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Doug Schulkind:

It's a glottal throw-down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey, Texas Scott. How you be?!
  6:07pm bart:

there is a great clip of them sledding down a slope of fake snow in a department store
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Of course there is.
Avatar 6:08pm texas scott:

It's nice catching your show live.
and a Title Match,at that!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Now welcoming in the aforementioned Leon Thomas. If you play your cards right, he may make another appearance at show's end.
  6:09pm bart:

yes, here he is. leon thomas. i tell the story of how he literally fell onto his yodel from a yoga headstand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Was he doing a yoga headstand while sledding down fake snow in a department store?
Avatar 6:11pm Ike:

I really dug Bart's Wreck This Mess back in the 90s. Prob. one of the first shows I checked out regularly on FMU along with Margaret, Ken, Wildgirl, Dave Mandl....
  6:12pm bart:

while phoning a deadbeat who he'd lent money to! teeth went thru his lips. unable to sing, the yodel just came out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@ike
I bet you can still listen to Wreck This Mess. Bart, feel free to give info on how people can catch your show.
  6:14pm bart:

thnx ike. this reggae yodel [1of MANY!!] escaped me & didn't make it into the book...
  6:15pm bart:

my shows inc. yodel shows are archived at: http://www.mixcloud.com/wreckthismess/
Avatar 6:15pm ndbob:

This is great - certainly never heard this one before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Doug Schulkind:

If anyone can guess the next performer(s), I will give you a million dollars
  6:17pm bart:

yes, that's miriam makeba. the yodel came from africa... thousands of yrs before the swiss stuffed it down their lederhosen
Avatar 6:17pm Ike:

Cool, thanks! Will check it out. Must run. Farewell & good yodelings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Miriam Makeba > Three Stooges. Now THAT is a segue.
  6:19pm bart:

someone had to do it! the segue is the cocaine of DJs
  6:19pm Hugo:

Actually got the book right in front of me here. Very sturdy looking lady on the front cover. She was Dutch?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Doug Schulkind:

'ello 'ugo!
  6:20pm bart:

no that is book 1: YODEL-Ay. that is olga lowina. indeed a dutch yodeler of some heft.
  6:21pm Hugo:

Ullo dere.
  6:23pm bart:

thnx hugo for getting book 1. i thot 1 book would be plenty but... here i am with #2 YODEL IN HIFI... which concentrates on the living, young renewers & renovators.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Jeff Golick:

"a dutch yodeler of some heft"

Just wanted to repeat that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Bart, Hugo is out your way in Bergen, Norway.
  6:25pm Hugo:

Ah, brand new sequel. Swissconsin, eh?

Indeed, heftig, as we would say
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Doug Schulkind:

Better than a deft yodeler of some hutch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

@Bart
Is this Burton himself doing the yodeling?!
  6:27pm bart:

there is a scandinavian section. plus it also inc. polk björn & kleine heine & the film 'art of yodeling' by eivind tolas
  6:28pm bart:

no it's just some sample from the grinch. but burton has a certain fascination for yodeling -- mars attacks!
  6:30pm bart:

lowina was called the nightingale with iron lungs - she performed in big halls refusing the aid of electronic amplification

  6:50pm bart:

animal yodels are great - i feel a thematic show coming on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Doug Schulkind:

I heard this Leon & Louis track on WFPW on my car radio in about 1979. I nearly ran off the road. I spent the next decade asking clerks in record stores about it, and they looked at me with such disdain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Jeff Golick:

Thayayayayayayank ye.
  7:02pm Hugo:

No wreck was messed in the course of the show.
  7:02pm bart:

wow cool 1979 & uncool disdain
