Doug, if you happen to have a soul song where a strong women tells men or women to get the hell out of her way, that would be great. I had a tough week threaded with lots of slights correlating to my gender.

Doug, I'm sorry to hear that. That sounds like jail. I like visiting Pitt, but I don't know how it would be there to live there. And I did a student station like that.

@tikk It wasn't at Pitt, actually. And I couldn't tell you the reason, because there really is none. Basically, it is a way to enforce that DJs keep up with the new music that "the station" wants the DJs to keep up with. Crazy

@tikk Typically the reason that student radio stations enforce the playing of certain music is so that they can "report" those tracks and a) continue to get free records from those labels, and b) to look cool in certain publications that publicize radio station's playlists. Both are deeply insipid reasons, in my unhumble opinion. Turn it UP, Randy. I swear it will help/ Hi Hoily in NC!!!! Bagpipes love you! Keep breathing, Van. In, out, in, out. Good! @Nine in PGH I am not so flummoxed by the enforced reading of PSAs and station promos. I love having the freedom to NOT read them, but I don't mind that some stations feel the need to pay some lip service to community interests. It is the enforced playing of music from specified CDs that I find revolting. If I do end up doing something on the air, I will use the "bin" records as talkover tracks.

We shall see. I am game to give it a go... @ausmanx I know what you mean about improv sounding best where you're live in the room. There is no doubt about it, but then you listen to something like this recording, and you realize it can still be abjectly thrilling on tape, too.

I am droolingly aware! Good morning, earrie! Bill Evans is on first piano. @Cecile I could understand it more if the local radio station was trying to enforce the playing of music by local artists. I would still find it foolish, but at least there would be a rationale. @Andrew Waterloo You are not the first to complain.

We are now less than 90 minutes away from Uncle Michael's Hinky Dinky Time radio show here on the Drummer Stream. His show is completely different from mine except for one big non-difference. Like me, he adores his music passionately. It globs down the sides of his selections like treacle off a biscuit. Uncle Michael's playlist will be here: wfmu.org...

At University of Maryland, where my sister teaches, they have both a broadcast FM station (with Internet streaming) and an Internet-only station. But the weird thing is that they never have all of the time slots filled up. Their schedule has too many empty spots where they go off the air. When I was in college, there were more students and faculty wanting to have radio shows than available time slots.
