Here is how I described Karl Blau's deeply fantastic Kelp! Monthly music subscription service in my Favorites of 2005 write-up:

There's a new music scene taking shape, but it's not in the town 80 miles outside of Seattle where the sounds are coming from. No, the new happening is located inside the head of Anacortes, Washington, local Karl Blau. In addition to being one of Laura Veirs's excellent Tortured Souls bandmates, he happens to be a prolific maker of quirky and captivating music all his own. Armed with a four-track recorder and a post-office box, Karl's created an audio magazine, Kelp! Monthly, to get it from his frontal lobe to your front door. Each month's offering—the music of Karl and his friends, along with spoken word, sound collage and found audio—comes packaged in a lovingly crafted folk-art concoction as odd and endearing as the music itself.

All of the tunes on this evening's broadcast come from issues of Kelp! Monthly.

I never remember about the clicky stars, but I just clicked this episode based on -- what? -- about a minute of Karl's voice. This is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes indeed. Karl's voice is a beautiful thing in nature.
Avatar 6:10pm glenn:

shouldn't we listening to this through blaupunkts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh glenn, you Blaupunkt rocker, you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Saddened to hear of the death of Mary Ellen Mark. Her indelible images are dancing in my head during this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm dave:

Hey, Doug and all! Thanks for the Karl Blau - I just got off Radio Blau myself, so this makes sense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

This is great, Doug. Another discovery made right here!
  6:50pm Naked Reporta:

Wow, man, you need to relax. That caller was talking about Cumming, GA (and yes, that's how it's spelt). A generation ago, it was almost completely devoid of blacks. It was a KKK stronghold. A 1986 march by black leaders into the town was met with violence. Oprah even highlighted the town on her show. Today, Cumming is a progressive town that actively seeks to promote diversity. That's what the caller was driving at. That change often comes slowly, and then next thing you know, change is here. Sounds like you need to change your attitude about Southerners. Love, a relocated Jersey Boy (SC for 15 yrs).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

I believe we have some confused commenters. Probably meant for Chris T's Aerial View show that's over on WFMU right now. Either that, or I completely missed some strange subtext of Karl's music.
  6:54pm Naked Reporta:

LOL yes sorry Doug
Avatar 6:55pm glenn:

commenters? confused? pfffffhhhhh. as if.
Avatar 6:55pm Flash Strap:

Hee man I just tuned in and I was like WHAT on earth could I have missed
Avatar 6:55pm Flash Strap:

ON earth, rather. the confusion continues in a milder form
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Already fixed your typo, Flash Strap. Because I'm that kind of (incredibly anal) guy.
Avatar 6:58pm Flash Strap:

i had no idea you could do that. benevolent overlord
Avatar 6:58pm ndbob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug Schulkind:

It's my pleasure, benevolent ndbob!
Avatar 7:00pm glenn:

yes, but now it looks like flash is commenting on some made up confusatory synapse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm dave:

Thanks again, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Doug Schulkind:

My esteemed pleasure, dave and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Gary:
