It was a remark in 1965 by one of the founders of Intel to the effect that the power of an integrated circuit (measured in the number of transistors) had doubled year after year. He predicted that pattern would continue, and he has been proven pretty much right. Think about that: since 1965 the power of an IC has increased on the order of 2^50.
