IN many cities in the US, streetcars were removed in the 1950's and 1960's. I visited Pittsburgh in the 1970's and it still had streetcars then. Some of them painted in Peter Max style.

@Alex in Illinois
Famously gridlocked Los Angeles once had a efficient and effective streetcar system. Big Oil and Goodyear and the American auto industry conspired to have it scuttled. #aintthatamerica
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Jeff "Jeff" Jeff:

For my work I just read a very sweet children's book by George Plimpton in which a streetcar figures prominently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Goyim in the AM:

Just watch. The song will end and then two will come at once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Uncle Michael:

I recently found a circa 1960 photo of a beloved intersection I lived near beginning in 1968. It had unknown-to-me streetcar rails.

Avatar 🥁 11:35am βrian:

  11:35am Dean:

I meant only that some people love and enjoy her voice, while others are utterly put off by it. Some listeners are "superhearers" when it comes to her timbre and articulation. It took me a while to get used to her, but now I like her quite a bit. (I love cilantro, too.) Dolly? I can't even try to dislike her. She deserves every bit of fame, respect, and celebrity she has.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

My mother was a militant anti-cilantroist. She would nearly come to blows with waiters who delivered a dish that contained cilantro when she asked for it to be left out. She could smell it across a restaurant floor and scowl at the other patrons. It was pretty embarrassing.

It has become a running gag by now when we go to a local pizza joint with certain friends who routinely order a salad for the table, "no sprouts!" Inevitably the salad is delivered with a generous portion of sprouts. It's almost like it's logically impossible not to have sprouts.

you know ndbob, i never di understand that connection... why should one be affiliated with the other?

Dean, Joanna was in high fashion on wfmu when her first album came, but i had a little trouble with it. then i heard the 3 song ep "Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band" (NOT the album with a similar name) and i fell in Love immediately.

Man, whover mixed this is going nuts with the pan pot.

@Mr C, not always true. Lots of idiots voted for Palin. Nobody will vote for a BORING veep though. Dems are forgetting, yet again, that charisma is #1, no matter what. OK, I'll stop now.

  11:54am Dean:

"Ys Street Band"? I wonder if she's alluding to Il Balleto di Bronzo's best known album?
Avatar 11:54am Ike:

Yay for a new show coming soon Fri. 3-6! Any hints on what it'll be like?
Avatar 11:54am ndbob:

few care about the VP unless it's someone scary like Palin

Just had some cole slaw with sesame and cilantro, as it happens. Now I've got an impending case of the "rooty poots."
  11:57am Mr C:

Right to Cry is a great Goffin/King song. off radar a bit.

Fine show, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am coelacanth:

Dean, maybe. she's very aware and diverse in her musical influence; but it's pronounced as
"E street band".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

Fixed it, Mr C. Serves me right for trusting Wikipedia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Jeff "Jeff" Jeff:

Is there a version of Long Black Limo on that album, too? Was thinking I'd love to hear that too.

Great shoo, @Doug!! Thx.

By some weird genetic quirk, I like cilantro and have no problem with nails on a blackboard. I may have been an escaped experiment.
Thanks, Doug, for this successful musical experiment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm coelacanth:

...and βrian, Rosemary gets around. i said yes to her too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm coelacanth:
