That guitar run made me think Allman Brothers just then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Sem:

@Maggie B: used to watch Justin Wilson cook, couldn't wait for his weekly "demonstration" of pouring exactly a teaspoon of salt into his hand. Good times.

Avatar 10:27am ɨkɛ:

Which Brooklyn neighborhood were you in? I live in Sunset Park, part of which was gerrymandered into a state Senate district with Boro Park. I've been volunteering for weeks now to help beat the very conservative state senator who weirdly runs as a Democrat there. Didn't work. The sting of failure! Sigh. But much of the rest of the NY state Senate really got cleaned up last night! Lots of other fake Democrats got obliterated! (Not Cuomo, of course -- he's too savvy and slippery -- but that might've been out of reach even with a more skilled challenger.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Doug Schulkind:

Death to the IDC, ɨkɛ!
Avatar 🥁 10:30am βrian:

Flyover Land congrats to NY voters. Except re Cuomo, of course.

Could be those sub-cutaneous worms you picked up in the tropics ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Doug Schulkind:

Sub-Cutaneous Worms was the name of my first band in high school.
Avatar 10:32am northguineahills:

Since I'm in a very liberal town, the state districts are extremely gerrymandered (everywhere surrounding G-ville is Trumpsyvania). We're the only non-conservative area north of Orlando. At least the we have great city and county politicians.
Avatar 🥁 10:33am βrian:

I bet the In crowd knew you as "The sub-cutes."
Avatar 10:34am ⓘⓚⓔ:

Indeed, I'm exultant that the IDC is smashed, crushed, stomped, pummeled, wiped out! I thought maybe we'd beat 3 of them. But no, we got out *6* of the 8, including the ringleader Jeff Klein, who spent $2.4 million to save himself and failed anyway! So that's fantastic. Couldn't beat Simcha Felder in my district, but rumor is that he hates the job, so he's the author of his own misery anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Uncle Michael:

I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille.

UM gargles with warm lemon water for an hour and a half?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Jeff Golick:

Everyone I voted for in NY lost, but I think Tish James as Atty Gen could work out ok.
Avatar 10:37am burke:

I volunteered for the Marie Newman campaign who challenged Rep. Dan Lipinski in the 3rd district of Illinois. In that race, the old political machine showed that it still has plenty of strength.
  10:38am Listener Gregory:

@Jeff Ditto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

Ms. James made pretty clear that she would stay in line with Cuomo, no? Still though, having an African American woman as attorney general is something mighty significant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Parq:

Jeff G, me too on all counts. When I went to bed last night, Williams had the edge for LG, but apparently all of Hochul's supporters voted on their way home from work.
Avatar 🥁 10:44am βrian:

A friend in NY told me he couldn't parse the cyrillic on his ballot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, James basically became part of the Cuomo/Hochul/James package, but there is significance in her taking on the role, as you note. Also, my former councilmember, Brad Lander, supported her (with some caveats) and his progressive bona fides are unimpeachable, so that gives me some hope that she can retain an independent streak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Jeff Golick:

In summation, fuck Cuomo forever.
  10:48am Listener Gregory:

I have a Lacy/Waldron album that is fantastic, but I've never heard of this one, Doug.
  10:49am mauri:

heyyy douuuug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
We were tight with Brad Lander before we left Brooklyn. His wife worked (works?) at the Brennan Center for Justice, where Jessie worked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

Happy to add to your Lacy/Waldron life experience, Listener Gregory!

Welcome, mauri!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
It preceded Chicken Farm records. Obviously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Sem:

Ms. Kitt---not. But someone's been listening to her records.
  10:56am Listener Gregory:

Because of zoning regulations, chicken farm records are not allowed in my neighborhood.

actually i'm referring to the continual voting for candidates who might be "The Answer". we hold these people up as Messiahs and they disappoint us each time. we have to stop that madness..... how?? well, i have no answer, sadly

Avatar 11:51am annie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Funky16Corners:

At least his pillow isn't "moist"
  11:51am rw:

And I thought I could keep from giggling.
  11:51am Listener Gregory:

My dirty middle-school mind couldn't help making a connection with the B-side, "Here Comes Charlie." Oy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Jeff Golick:

I thought he said "pillar" the first time, which seemed a little de trop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Funky16Corners:

Or sticky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

A Baltimore guy. Nothing bad ever included that in a sentence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Pillar works, too. Interestingly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

Don't even try, rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Uncle Michael:

See you ll shortly!
Avatar 11:53am annie:

doug, i've discovered my POV is not generally accepted, but hey, i'm still happy to call myself a bleeding-heart liberal. i just have zero control over the electoral processes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Parq:

RBG recently commented on how disappointed she is in the partisan tone of the Kavanaugh hearings, contrasting it with her own confirmation. She wisely (or coyly, depending on your view of these things) declined to indicate a reason for the change -- inevitably inviting more of the "both sides are at fault" crap we hear in most of the media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Doug Schulkind:

My pleasure, Sem. Y'all come back soon, ya hear!
Avatar 11:54am annie:

i lerve rbg..
Avatar 11:54am annie:

great show doug, thanks so much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Funky16Corners:

@Parq - The big difference being that Kavanaugh is a partisan foot soldier for the anti-choice/pro-corporate army
  11:55am Listener Gregory:

Surely there is a classic soul song in which the singer sobs at having to give up his ostrich jacket. Doug, please play next week.
