BK, as a teaser, what we might hear this afternoon?
Avatar 1:03am Sid:

...or "what might we hear this afternoon?"
  9:26am BK:

I have taken the oath of omerta.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Bill. Europe has tuned in :-)
  3:05pm Vincent Nifigance:

Mothers Day in the UK.

No wonder you were being secretive! Falafel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Random Control:

Zappa covers are allowable? I kind of figured he's generally verboten on FMU.
Avatar 3:09pm kAT:

What is this?! I love it!
Avatar 3:10pm Mailman Tom:

Spooky!
  3:11pm Funk_Wizard:

Why would Zappa be verboten?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Random Control:

I virtually never hear him on this station, which is sad, because you pretty much never hear him on any other radio station in America. (Europe, he's on the air a lot.) I figure it can't be an accident. I mean, he rocks, he's alternative, where else would he fit in if not here. Once, Googling on it, I hit on this page. Maybe some clue to the thinking. blog.wfmu.org...

The Nite Owl plays Zappa on almost every show.

Windsor Ontario - Home of the formerly great CKLW "The Big 8"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Random Control:

Thanks. I'll check out Nite Owl. Past my bedtime, but I'll find a way.
Avatar 3:43pm Mailman Tom:

It's in the archives, easily accessible
Avatar 3:47pm Sid:

Zappa always has been an acquired taste. That linked page is interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm fred:

@Random Control: just the luck of the draw that you didn't hear him. A quick search of the playlists yields 377 plays for Zappa, and 310 for The Mothers of Invention. And I think Scott Williams uses a Zappa snippet as his signature phrase. Of course no DJ would play the Zappa every week, he's not Don Felder. Keep trying, you'll eventually hear him
  4:02pm Funk_Wizard:

Chinese rock! Is this the Dee Dee version?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm jkeigh:

@Random Control, that's probably because there really isn't a lot of Zappa music out there.
  4:04pm Funk_Wizard:

> there really isn't a lot of Zappa music out there.
I've got 13 vinyls here that are barely the tip of the iceberg that might disagree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm jkeigh:

@Funk_Wizard....it was joke. Like saying there aren't a lot of stars out there so there can't be any life out there
  4:06pm Al:

@jkeigh: You got me - I was about to post a rebuttal.
  4:07pm Al:

Then again, tomorrow is April 1st.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think that whereas Zappa used to be the snob intellectual's Rawker critic's choice - there has been some backlash / a pendulum swing the other way - & many consider him too cynical & derisive. There is some sense he'd rather have been fiddling w/ Orchestras than slumming w/ all this RawkaRolla lot... For one thing - maybe the old timers had actually seen his amazing bands perform Live...& maybe there's plenty o' irony & stuff to go around these days...hm...I always loved him & drew my own line how far I'd get wit his cynicism before pulling back - then no dif than now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm jkeigh:

Darn, one day early. Except for those in Eastern Europe/ Western Asia then I can say it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm jkeigh:

I go through moods with Zappa. I will always love him but can't always listen to him. When I do, it's usually a specific period that I'm in the mood for but I'm not sure if I love one era more than any other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think dif eras is a good point. Perhaps Mothers found less off-putting than later to certains...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm jkeigh:

I love this Spencer Davis Track. Haven't heard it in a while....a long while.
Avatar 4:19pm Sid:

Didn't realize there was controversy over who wrote Chinese Rock(s). Always thought it was Dee Dee/Richard Hell. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm jkeigh:

@Sid, Thanks I love a good controversy.
Avatar 4:27pm Sid:

JKeigh, especially over a great song.
Avatar 4:27pm Mailman Tom:

Zappa issued a 3 disc CD set consisting of nothing but instrumentals. It's called Shut Up and Play Your Guitar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Jan Turkenburg:

Mary-Lou... another Zappa reference :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Here's an interesting one: Written by early LouReed, but done by UK Maximum R&B band Downliner's Sect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm jkeigh:

@Mailman Tom, If you want to get technical they were three Lps first but all great stuff.
Avatar 4:37pm Sid:

Cherry Drops - very catchy.
Avatar 4:38pm Sid:

Bloodshot Bill. New nickname?
  4:47pm Al:

Haven't heard Billy Stewart in years.
Avatar 4:48pm duke:

Just in time for Billy - love this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Think it's a cover of the 'PinUps' cover, so to speak...those are all great versions, I thinks.
  4:55pm Senior Living:

Thanks Bill! We are so honored... We love you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah Thx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm jkeigh:

Thanks for the music Bill. Have a great afternoon
  4:58pm Funk_Wizard:
