Avatar 12:26pm TDK60:

I saw Billy Childish around 2007. At the time, he was in a public dispute about who had a better mustache, he or Jack White. I didn't care about that but the show was good; he read poetry too.
Avatar 👻 12:26pm David Shortell:

Tomorrow's episode of "Morricone Island" on WFMU should be marvelous.

This Resonars record is killer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh papers are outta business. My bad...
Avatar 👻 12:47pm David Shortell:

The first time I heard "Lucy Leave" it was on a record by Wellwater Conspiracy, featuring Monster Magnet's first guitarist.
That other Monster Magnet "spinoff" group, the Ribeye Brothers, feature the song in their live set.
Avatar 12:48pm Joe B:

yes wellwater did a great cover as did thee shams from cincinnati and the thanes also did it
Avatar 👻 12:51pm Hackensack Slim:

These are the kind of things one learns on The Three Chord Monte.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@Mark in Toronto - actually you can play bullshit on the radio. That's all that most other stations play. Even though the ariwaves are clogged with bullshit, the actual word is still naughty.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Also - Joe Belock does not play bullshit on his show!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Woo:

I could listen to Drive It On for another half hour.
  12:57pm Mark in Toronto:

I understand, you have to be careful. The Thanes - Haven't heard anyone mention them for a long time. Was lucky to see them at one of those Vegas weekenders in the 90's, they were so good.
  12:58pm Mark in Toronto:

No it was in in the early 2000's.
  12:58pm Slaboch:

  1:10pm David in London:

Hey Joe and all you fine Lockers out there, TDK, Rev Rabbit et al.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I remember hearing Eleventh Dream Day as a teenager in the 80s. It blew my mind that punk rock and Neil Young could be combined. Of course I eventually figured out that it's not that far of a stretch but it was pretty revelatory at the time.
Avatar 1:11pm Joe B:

same Tim. first time i saw them they covered southern pacific and i was hooked for life
Avatar 1:11pm Joe B:

hi david!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:11pm tim from champaign (now washington):

  1:19pm Mark in Toronto:

  1:33pm Joey:

Hey Joe, Thanks for showing a little love to Wink O'Bannon! He's a legend in Louisville.
  1:34pm Chi Bill:

Well, BLEEP the safe harbor hours! ;>/
  1:35pm Mark in Toronto:

Joe were the Remains there as well? Also some strange band with women dressed as nuns? Or was that a weird fever dream. I stayed at a Holiday Inn in a sketchy part of town, where the desk clerk said, when you leave only turn right, DON'T go left.
  1:40pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

Great set, sad news. I like Wink’s work w Bodeco too.
Avatar 1:41pm Joe B:

the remains were there yes!
Avatar 1:41pm Roberto:

Oh shizz, Charlie Daniels.
Avatar 1:42pm Joe B:

@DK - yeah i missed bodeco, heard a couple songs on the ken katkin show, will have to investigate further
  1:43pm SeanG:

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Artie:

Great live set from Tommy and the Commies on the Goner/Slovenly 5th of July Live event yesterday. Commies tore it up!
  1:47pm Joey:

His Blinders stuff is great. He and his brother Michael were bad asses. Def check out Bodeco along with Grayson Hall. His youtube channel is called hammerofthedogs - lots of O'Bannon unreleased tunes.
Avatar 1:48pm Joe B:

thanks joey, hey kenny thanks, - artie, as they always do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm efd:

hey Joe, great show today as always!
@Mark In Toronto the band with the nuns might have been Reverend Beatman, I'm pretty sure he was at either LV Grind or Rockaround.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thot Tyler Keith was our local River City Rebels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm McGroovey:

Hey, I just turned my radio on. Did you play the Hugh Downs record yet?
  1:58pm Mark in Toronto:

@efd: You're right. The only reason I remember is a write-up on Rev Beatman appeared in an issue of the old Word magazine (it was british). That was a great publication.
Avatar 1:58pm Roberto:

To me the most memorable thing about Hugh Downs was that Lenny Bruce once referred to him as an "obsequious, oversolicitous tuchas-licker."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm steveo:

Heya Joe, good to hear yah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

How To Talk Dirty & Influence People
...& give yer filthiest show without cuss words...
  2:12pm SeanG:

today's also the date when lennon/mccartney first met up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm McGroovey:

I think there were non-Gibb songs on the early Australian BeeGees records, but I haven't looked at the writing credits in a while. They put out almost 3 LPs worth of singles in Australia before they went to England and started doing their better-known late-sixties (Atco?) things. I have I think 4 compilations if them, and there's not a lot of overlap between them.
Avatar 2:14pm Joe B:

hey steveo! thanks sean, i meant to mention that before
Avatar 2:14pm Joe B:

good point thanks mcgroovey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & tomorrow Ringo is EIGHTY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm McGroovey:

Nice Cars cover by Soccer Mommy.

I don't like the name Soccer Mommy, but it's not my band, so not my problem. And they're good anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Bootsie:

Great Cars track!!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Hughie Considine:

Forgot how great this Cars track is. Shake It Up didn't get a lot of love.
Avatar 2:27pm Joe B:

weird thing about the cars track - it got no fm radio airplay or other attention yet they played it all the time live!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm chaos_in_la_la:

Dang, I lost my mind!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Hughie Considine:

This song is so different without "if you dunt"
  2:33pm Esther Crow:

eclectic mix, Joe! never heard this grace jones song! and that cars song...whoah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm chaos_in_la_la:

Yo, you ever see the Grace Jones performing for a bunch of conservatives in Chile in 1980? She does 'Bullshit' and it's amazing!! Widely available on yt
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Hughie Considine:

Stan Lynch, the Heartbreakers drummer, said he found the cadence for Breakdown from a Ringo Starr beat -- cannot remember which one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ringo Swings
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Hughie Considine:

As does Stan, but he couldn't swing with Jeff Lynne. He was a loner, a rebel...
Avatar 2:46pm Joe B:

i wouldn't blame jeff lynne - tp was done with him by then. great player but clash of personalities finally wore out his welcome
  2:46pm Esther Crow:

A+++++++ song...Doris Troy A++++
