OED on shoegazing:
A style of popular music originating in Britain at the start of the 1990s, featuring a sound in which the distinctions between separate instruments and vocals are blurred, esp. through the use of effects, and characterized by a deliberately reticent or introverted style of performance. Frequently attributive. Cf. dream pop n. at dream n.2 and adj. Compounds 5.
So named because of the supposed tendency of such performers to look down (esp. in order to operate guitar effects pedals) rather than at the audience.

Some of the illustrations in OED are fun, too:

1991 New Musical Express 8 June 26 Call it ‘shoe gazing’, call it ‘murmuring’, even call it ‘post-rave comedown’.
1991 Daily Tel. 11 Nov. 2/7 Competent though they are, their long tousled hair, distorted guitar sound and ‘shoe gazing’ stance—they stare at their feet as they play—does little to set them apart from those in Britain.

Maryland created its own Canadian Geese problem through well-meaning but not well-thought-out intervention. Years ago when the goose population was threatened, they started a program where they had geese nesting here instead of Canada. Somehow they expected the geese to go to Canada in the summer, not fully grasping the fact that the geese migrate to and from where they were born, not Canada just because.

there's nothing from empty sky in jewel box, he's pretty much disowned that album which is a shame.

Hi, Julie! Wasn't "Lady Samantha" covered by Three Dog Night? Just a random thought that passed through my head just now. If I'm mistaken, blame it on the fact that I got my first COVID-19 shot today.
Avatar 🦇 6:22pm

@Gerry yes indeed it was! as was Your Song

The young Elton/Bernie combo was on fire! Prolific as hell with great song after great song. And Elton's piano playing is superb.

Thanks, everybody, for the well wishes for getting my vaccination cycle started today. But I'm fortunate to be in two "favored" groups, both over 65 and a veteran. So many Americans are encountering numerous problems in getting their shots. I hope Biden and his team can figure this mess out.

GG's on the Sheena stream but I believe one of her (3) shows gets re-aired on the Rock and Soul stream.

These kind of questions are often impossible to answer when one loves an artist, truly, but what do you think is Elton's "best" album? Is it Capt Fantastic?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Woh. Didn't know anything about this. Interesting - as Drake's delivery is as ominous & impressive as his writing. But he wasn't a monument then yet. & Elton perhaps in a phase still ravenous for material?
Avatar 🦇 6:44pm
Julie:

S&M&S that was my favorite for a long time. a lot of people love Yellow Brick Road. For me it's Elton John (and then Empty Sky)
Avatar 🦇 6:44pm

this is the only song I'm playing with Elton's post-vocal surgery voice today

@Spinning Giant: If you look up the album "The Zia Fantasy / Luna", It's Got Me is track number 3. We released it as a trilogy of EPs on our streams. The bandcamp version was consolidated once the trilogy was out.
