Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm

Hello WR! Hope you're staying warm or cool if you're lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
doctorjazz:

Hey, WR! Chillin as well, waiting for daughter to complete dinner (we just got that soy sauce raved about on some FMU board or other, Bluegrass Soy Sauce (from Louisville, KY, , of all places, woodja believe it?), will try it soon, on some chicken, with other stuff...

Ahhh, great set opening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
doctorjazz:

Tuba on with all that bass, wild! (Howard Johnson)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
KimSorise:

Cool! I use that stuff too - it's good.
Thanks. They also have a bourbon barrel aged soy that is kinda crazy - almost syrup like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
doctorjazz:

I think that's the soy we got, it is thick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
KimSorise:

Yep! Howard Johnson... I played him the other week as well.
  7:17pm
Dean:

doctorjazz: Thanks for mentioning the soy sauce. Gonna have to order some for this household, too. Wish I had it tonight. Cooking with soy sauce!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm

Saw him with Gravity, think at Sweet Basils, NYC, many moons ago.

This CTI stuff sounds so much better to me now than it did then (I was such a snob...)
  7:24pm
Dean:

Ordered! I added a bottle of the chutney sauce, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
KimSorise:

Haha! I think so - except it's still as thin as a floppy disk... some slide all over the slip mat.

Sweet, Dean! The chutney is awesome too.

Dean:

Recently purchased condiments from Phil Gelb in W. Oakland. He's a shakuhachi artist and vegan caterer. His Sechuan chili and hot mustard are amazing! Alas, I think he's only distributing via pick-up at his flat.

WR:

LOL, doctorjazz, i nearly commented about how i was such a snob back then. groove bands could groove but jazz players should be pushing the limits. Miles Davis On The Corner was my standard, match that or get out. :/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
KimSorise:

I think I have generally enjoyed the more complicated aspects of jazz. I don't mind busy - clearly.
  7:37pm
Dean:

Same here, yet my gateway was Bill Evans' "Peace Piece."

First heard this Pharoah Sanders on a mix
(Stones Throw, Madlib I think?) close to 20 years ago and it’s always stuck with me. I finally bought the lp last year.

WR:

Interesting Dean, some of his collaborators loke enjoy and follow but was not aware of him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

I grew up as a trumpet player and dad played sax - Lots of Pharaoh Sanders and Miles in the house.
Avatar 7:42pm
TDK60:

Hello.
  7:43pm
Dean:

He has remained low-key, WR. He used to host house concerts at his flat The price of admission gets dinner (vegan, haute cuisine) and the show. Only 20 attendees, due to the size of his flat. Dine with the artists themselves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
KimSorise:

Hey Hey TDK60! Welcome and enjoy.
  7:51pm
Dean:

Lots more Phil on YT. He worked with Pauline Oliveros, and in fact when I visited him last week he remarked that he wished he could ask her how to deal with the lockdown and all. He realized that his work in improvisation prepared him for these sorts of constraints, but wanted to tap her wisdom.

Jury is in, the soy sauce is a hit! Chicken thighs sauteed with it, Trader Joe's Black Garlic, and some secret ingredients (Beck's secret), yum!

I believe that Chef Ed Lee - Louisville's celebrity chef - is partnered in making the soy, barrel aged sauces and the ponzu from Bourbon Barrel Foods.
