And was trying to recall a moment when I was in Chicago in 1968 at a record store with my cousin listening to a old blues singer. I figured out it was the famous Record Mart and probably Big Joe Williams. While typing out my memory, you chose to play Elmore James as my memory soundtrack. Life does that sometimes. Very affirming.

	1:05pm alanr: Lucky me. My mother, was loved jazz, got tickets to see a concert in Cleveland (hometown) in 1980(?) and she and I saw Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson and Count Basie, if my memory serves me well.
	1:06pm doctorjazz: Pass often played solo, which is not unheard of for guitar players, but players who perform solo usually have some finger style technique, to be able to keep a bass line with a thumb, chord and/or melody with the other fingers. Pass was unique in just using his pick,alternating chords, melody, and being completely convincing at it.

	1:48pm Doug Schulkind: The King Kong musical is hugely important in the history of South African music. When the show went on tour to London, it became a vehicle that transported many of the greatest artists out of apartheid hell into exile.

I had major computer mishaps, though, computer crashed, external hard drives acting up, hoping a repair person gets the PC working again (he's a very slow worker). In the meantime, had to get a laptop for work, likely will use it to download the Matsuli music soon.

	1:56pm Doug Schulkind: The apartheid authorities didn't censor King Kong. In their estimation, it was a story about a big black brute with a drinking problem who gets his due punishment. Black South African theatre and music is filled with examples of performances whose messages of black pride and liberation went right over the heads of the government (which tightly controlled everything).

It often involves tapes of phone conversations, so they recorded a phone conversation with the would-be editor. It didn't get published as intended, but it's really on point

	1:05pm alanr: Lucky me. My mother, was loved jazz, got tickets to see a concert in Cleveland (hometown) in 1980(?) and she and I saw Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson and Count Basie, if my memory serves me well.
	1:06pm doctorjazz: Pass often played solo, which is not unheard of for guitar players, but players who perform solo usually have some finger style technique, to be able to keep a bass line with a thumb, chord and/or melody with the other fingers. Pass was unique in just using his pick,alternating chords, melody, and being completely convincing at it.
