This could have been a seriously cheeseball affair, but I love it--the percussion's cool, Cal's great as always and whatever electronic effects they're using (like a synth wash or something?) is very effective at creating that stormy atmosphere.

Stanley, I hate to be one of those people, but I don't believe Merry ever sang the song live with the Stones. For many years they toured with a wonderful backup singer named Lisa Fisher, and that's probably who you saw sing with them.

	5:08pm Mark R: There have been a lot of cool covers of "Season of the Witch" but I love the vibe of Donovan's original the best. I'm not actually a huge Donovan fan but I think this album is a real classic. I also saw him opening up for Yes in the 70s (I know, I know), and I was surprised at how much I liked his set. He was promoting a new album and he was really quite good.

	5:21pm Mark R: Merry did indeed cover it and did a helluva job, too! I thought the Super Session version of "Season of the Witch" was cool, too. Regarding Brian, unfortunately I think he was one of those people who loved being a pop star even more than he loved playing music, and he was really good at playing music. He had a lot of insecurities, and his massive drug and alcohol intake exacerbated his personality issues. The film wasn't originally supposed to be about the Stones, they were supposed to have a small part in it, but the studio saw the appeal of having a lot more of the Stones and a lot less of the other stuff, which was Godard's intent. For my part, I was only ever interested in the Stones stuff. Yes, Mick and Keith were cruel and impatient with Brian as basically a cat who couldn't handle his dope, a guy whose drug convictions prevented them from touring, and a guy who a lot of nights didn't even bother showing up, and when he did, he was often too fucked up to play. But in their defense, they were only about 23 or 24, and I don't know how mature or enlightened you were at that age, but I would've kicked a guy like Brian to the curb in 5 seconds when I was 25. (I'm not proud of it, but there it is.) Well, Lady, you played one Stones cover about an hour ago and I'm still blathering on about it. I'll shut up now.

I would just rather have them fit into my small studio space and have the surplus go to someone else.

This could have been a seriously cheeseball affair, but I love it--the percussion's cool, Cal's great as always and whatever electronic effects they're using (like a synth wash or something?) is very effective at creating that stormy atmosphere.

For many years they toured with a wonderful backup singer named Lisa Fisher, and that's probably who you saw sing with them.

I'm not actually a huge Donovan fan but I think this album is a real classic. I also saw him opening up for Yes in the 70s (I know, I know), and I was surprised at how much I liked his set. He was promoting a new album and he was really quite good.

	5:21pm Mark R: Merry did indeed cover it and did a helluva job, too! I thought the Super Session version of "Season of the Witch" was cool, too. Regarding Brian, unfortunately I think he was one of those people who loved being a pop star even more than he loved playing music, and he was really good at playing music. He had a lot of insecurities, and his massive drug and alcohol intake exacerbated his personality issues. The film wasn't originally supposed to be about the Stones, they were supposed to have a small part in it, but the studio saw the appeal of having a lot more of the Stones and a lot less of the other stuff, which was Godard's intent. For my part, I was only ever interested in the Stones stuff. Yes, Mick and Keith were cruel and impatient with Brian as basically a cat who couldn't handle his dope, a guy whose drug convictions prevented them from touring, and a guy who a lot of nights didn't even bother showing up, and when he did, he was often too fucked up to play. But in their defense, they were only about 23 or 24, and I don't know how mature or enlightened you were at that age, but I would've kicked a guy like Brian to the curb in 5 seconds when I was 25. (I'm not proud of it, but there it is.) Well, Lady, you played one Stones cover about an hour ago and I'm still blathering on about it. I'll shut up now.
