I interviewed Charles Hayward from This Heat some years back and they were forever playing the circuit of strange, left-field little venues across Europe at that time, so Neffe must have some good stories about them, too.

Here's something about the venue where this Gammagluboline was recorded: "Paradiso is an iconic rock music venue and cultural center, located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
It is housed in a converted former church building and was squatted by hippies in 1967 who wanted to convert the church to an entertainment and leisure club, but the police ended the festivities the same year. Though a year later the city opened Paradiso as a publicly-subsidized youth entertainment center.
A number of artists have played or recorded and filmed their concerts at the Paradiso such as The Rolling Stones, Joy Division, The Cure, Nirvana, John Cale, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Amy Winehouse, Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses, David Bowie, just to name a few."

I had the pleasure of attending Paradiso in winter of 1981& heard Blurt.Best Venue ever! 4 levels 1st concert hall with spacecake etc.. for you. 2nd level cinema 3rd live theatre 4tth coffee 7 tea bar, open until dawn.

I somehow overlooked "Cut It" by Blurt, which I think was the last proper studio album by them. Came out in 2010, but was just reissued on vinyl. It's really quite good.

Ted Milton was an old friend of my father in law and used to scare children senseless on Brighton beach with a puppet he made of him called Mr Phew. Mr Phew was a small puppet, but he also made a massive head (he was blue) that he used to raise up from behind the booth at the end of the show and the kids would flee in terror.

Mark, I went to see Blurt with my father in law in the mid to late 90s in Camden, here in London. When they saw each other they both screwed up their faces really tightly and said 'Phheeewwwwwww' in a really ridiculous voice. It was great.
