I listened to a Marvin Gaye disc called "What's Going On Live" that was recorded in DC in 1972. It's a great listen. I was really blown away by how calm and serene Marvin sounded during between song banter.

@HH my doggo growing up, a Basset/Beagle mix, HATED baths etc. Once we had to give her a flea bath (my little cousins from Upstate actually gave my dog fleas--really) and she was NOT happy. The little shits congregated in her crotch/rear leg joints so we had to drain some of the water and get her to lie on her back in a shallow tub to really drench that area. She NEVER bit but she was VERY squirmy and unhappy.

Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Threemoons:

She generally got two really dense baths a year--one in the cooler months in the house and the other one outside, tied to a tree, in the heat of summer...much easier, involved a hose, and she really seemed to PREFER the hose and was much more easy RE being lathered up. I wish we had known the trick of smearing peanut butter on the bathroom wall to keep doggo occupied but then again she was such a chowhound it would have taken an entire jar to thoroughly lather her up and rinse her off.
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Threemoons:

I mean, she loved rolling in the snow but then we had to dry her off really well because she was a pro at the full body shake that dogs do.

Apparently in Australia it's mandatory to learn how to swim in the school system! My little nephew, only 2.5 years old, already had his first baby swim class! Very reasonable if you ask me.
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

The idea is that even at a very young age, if they fall in the water over their head they can at least splash about and yell for help until they can properly swim.

I floundered in the school system, myself, but I loved swimming.

@Brian - Well you being a flounder would make sense that you love to swim.
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Threemoons:

@Brian my head is all over the place, so I'll say this about school....the case I'm working on now involves student records, so one of the things I'm seeing is class announcements--and what the cafeteria lunch is that day. Wow school lunches are just as awful as I remember them (I always preferred what Mom packed, even on pizza day).
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
Threemoons:

I mean, every single day, it's something with a lot of starch, a bit of protein, and a bunch of fat. And it all sounds like bulk crap that's been microwaved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
Handy Haversack:

Maybe Clay Pigeon will go back to the school lunch report in the fall.
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Threemoons:

@HH Oh, I SO HOPE he does! In the meantime, I can't believe what good stuff they feed the kids in State daycare in Melbourne! My Bro sent me the chart that the school sends him every week. Lots of yogurt, fresh fruit, tofu, Asian-inspired veggie dishes, fish, etc. They get free brekkie in the AM, lunch, and after nap snax. All healthy and balanced. If Clay DOES go back to that, I will have my bro send along the week plan and forward on to Clay.

Come to think of it, it would be AMAZING if our international Glisteners sent in their kids' lunch plans if their districts give them out. It would be a ton of fun! I remember seeing the my high-school-aged cousins' plans in Norway. Again, a hell of a lot healthier.

Threemoons:

@Tim I remember one very special day when we got home VERY late one night from a cultural event as a family, and Mom was zonked, so she said that if I wanted she would give me money for Pizza Day. I was all excited to finally be one of the cool kids who bought lunch but wow, I can still remember just how surrealy BAD the pizza was. Like @Tim said, a cardboardlike square, served lukewarm, on a little styrofoam square. This was before microwaves but EVERYTHING was steamed to heat it up, never baked. If we ever got a roll it was in a bakery bag still.

The grodiest school lunch I remember is the open face turkey sandwich. Glutony white bread with flavorless instant mashed potatoes slopped on with nasty ass processed turkey cubes plunked on top with extremely grody mucus colored runny gravy on top.

Same here, my earliest memories of taking lunch to school was in a brown paper bag. And I would see a lot of the other kids had lunch boxes, so I would ask my mom if I could have a lunch box, and she got me a flipper one. I felt pretty nifty about taking lunch to school then. But needless to say after some years went by having a lunch box was for kids, so I went back to Brown bagging.
