DJpeterDE:

We followed a marked path through a 18th C graveyard. Abolitionists, captains of industry, civil war doctors. Speakers were distributed throughout, singers wearing headsets standing back (shaded by trees). You heard a mix of all the singers but with the ones you were nearer to most prominent. Reciting excerpts from Declaratuoj of Independence, names of people killed by police. And some choral music. (Matana Roberts piece dedicated to Breonna Taylor)

Jeff, on my CD of that Ziporyn record, the track title is just "Press Release." David Lang is the composer. I think you are victim of one of the tricks electronic music providers use to insert the composer's name.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am

@Ike, yeah I'm in 39 -- Alexa vs Rodrigo (and many others). We recently received a startlingly anti-Aviles mailer at home, which only strengthened my leaning toward her.

Avatar 🥁 10:07am
Listener Gregory:

Oh, I also remember Trip-Tiks. (An earlier remark by Jeff.) They were much better than a road atlas, because AAA told you which routes to take to avoid traffic or other problems. And you got a map just around the area you were driving through for your whole trip.
Avatar 10:09am
Ike:

Oh wow! Actually I have left Large Audiobook Co. and now I work in politics — for Rodrigo for the moment actually — so I am biased. But those weird mailers definitely do not come from us. On ideology these two candidates are basically the same but I like his approach and experience more, that’s why I took this gig, but I like Alexa too. Some billionaires sent that mailer out….
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10am
DJpeterDE:

It was a beautiful day for it and the monuments in the cemetery made the whole thing really strange.
Avatar 10:11am
Ike:

But you’re right, in THIS district I think that mailer may HELP Alexa Aviles!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:13am
WR:

Yes, the monuments as staging, Wow.
Avatar 🥁 10:13am
Listener Gregory:

When you get a mailer like that you now have to question whether it was in fact *intended* to backfire. Political dirty tricks are just so common nowadays, and it's hard to find out who's behind any ad, organization, press release, etc.

Thanks for asking, Jeff, felt crappy Thursday and Friday, better yesterday and today, still worn out but not as sickly (chills aches, etc). Aside fromsome viral illness, I developed a dental abscess at the same time-stopped hurting after a day of antibiotics, but will need a root canal. 😟
But I should be back at work tomorrow (I NEVER take sick days...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17am
WR:

wow, this Bathysphere is going deep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Jeff Golick:

Very cool, @Ike, and now with ranked voting I can vote for both Aviles and Rodrigo. I don't think that was this mailer's intent in this case, @LG; it strikes me as a fairly ham-fisted attempt at scaremongering.

@doctorjazz, I'm using the Sonos speakers that pipe through WiFi (not bluetooth). They have decent sound, and once you figure out the software and make favorites, you can get to the Drummer stream with two clicks. You can also play your stored music by choosing them as your sound output. They can be moved anywhere your WiFi reaches.

I have a Logitech Squeezebox Touch hooked on, that I use to stream internet radio (pretty much set full time to the drummer stream)-in theory, I think the Squeezebox can also access the home network via our internet, but I've never been able to figure out how.

Jeff, your description of the Anna Webber record is wild, because it is essentially the same as a recent Ingrid Laubrok CD, in which one disc is her long composition with jazz group plus orchestra, and the second is the same composition with just a small group. Webber and Laubrock were drinking from the same pond, I guess.
