I missed a chunk of this track; I was in the shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Gary:

Tim, have you ever heard of Aicha Hassan? (Or perhaps Aisha Hassan?) I couldn't find any info on her at all.
Avatar 7:22pm
βrian:

Do you add capers to your puttanesca? I love capers but it seems too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Gary:

Yesss, you have to add them!
Avatar 7:23pm
tim abdellah:

Hey Gary - no, I'm not familiar with her.

WR:

On Monday I bored my partner when she asked a question about vinyl recordings and I replied asking did she mean vinyl as a substance vs. vinyl as a concept and proceeded to look up chemical Wikipedia entries. I was surprised to find that shellac is a natural resin, a by product of a certain insect eating resin containing inner bark of certain trees mostly in Thailand and Indonesia.

Lambda, do like I do and take a blu tooth speaker with you.

We owe so much to lac bugs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Gary:

WR! Haha, yeah, I think I found out about the bugs from that Amanda Petrusich book
Avatar 7:25pm
βrian:

And I do believe vinyl belongs on platters, not on houses.
Avatar 7:26pm
tim abdellah:

Found her in Arabic wikipedia. She's egyptian. arz.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:28pm

I learned about shellac from learning about wood finishes.
Avatar 7:34pm
βrian:

Shellac is good for sealing and preventing off-gassing from various modern wood products.

tim abdellah:

I've listened to a bit of Michel Polnareff. Some of his records were arranged by Bill Shepherd, who was the Bee Gees musical director from 1967-72. Doesn't look like he worked on this one, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Gary:

What do you recommend by him? I have a CD that I haven't yet really gotten into, and this, which I love
Avatar 7:57pm
tim abdellah:

Everything I know is from Spotify, where I went searching for Bill Shepherd tracks. This compliation looks pretty good - has the title song from this EP, plus some of the later Shepherd tracks. open.spotify.com...
