Bob Thompson – his chorus and orchestra  They Can't Take That Away From Me   Favoriting Mmm, Nice!  RCA Victor  1960  LP  "The world of contemporary popular music can use more L.P.'s like this one. The weary listeners tired of monotonous droning sounds and imitative orchestra-chorus efforts ought to be thankful for Thompson's artistry."  0:02:41 (Pop-up)
Frankie Ortega & Sy Oliver  Lady in Distress   Favoriting 77 Sunset Strip and Other Selections  Jubilee  1959  LP  "The hippest action and the coolest clan is set on the beat marked '77 SUNSET STRIP'. That's where Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer operate. Kookie parks cars. Next door is Dino's. Our dedicated detectives feed, foil and frequent there. There is where the Frankie Ortega Trio operate in an atmosphere of music, tempo and all that jazz. That's their beat. And they've got it."  0:04:48 (Pop-up)
Fred Waring and The Pennsylvanians  Calypso   Favoriting Showcase  Decca  1966  LP  "The instruments take over; here we have an interesting and pictorial arrangement in rhumba time. The Howard Roberts Quartet  Spooky   Favoriting Out of Sight (but "in" sound)  Capitol  1968  LP  "Bright splashes of brass, and some out-of-sight percussion. Plus, in keeping with today's sound-seeking, a little secret electronic 'experimentation' – tasteful, unobtrusive, but intriguing and effective."  0:36:40 (Pop-up)

The trumpets are then pitted against the saxes and trombones as they toss phrases back and forth. Hi Sonderangebot!

Don't you just love the change of instruments and styles per count of 4? (-;
Avatar 2:04pm
Sonderangebot:

Jan! How do you do!
Avatar 2:05pm
Rubberband Girl:

Apologies, this set is particularly scratchy...
Avatar 2:05pm
Mr Fab:

That Rose Murphy was provocative indeed, RBG. Very cool and unusual. Is anything known about her? Probably not, Grand Prix Records was pretty low-rent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
StringOFperils:

The scratches are added value!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Otis:

When the cats scratch on the post here, it creates a melody. Keep the pops and clicks coming.
Avatar 2:08pm
Rubberband Girl:

Well, I do agree, Perils! ++
Avatar 2:09pm
Rubberband Girl:

When you pay $0.25 for a record, you can't expect MINT.

David in California:

Rose Murphy reminded me of Blossom Dearie.
Avatar 2:17pm
Mr Fab:

"The listening connoisseur," eh? I think I'm more of a "listening kinda-sewer."
Avatar 2:17pm
Rubberband Girl:

Absolutely, David! I was hearing Blossom in my head and couldn't put my finger on it.
Avatar 2:18pm
Rubberband Girl:

Elfman in October – not original but oh so necessary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Otis:

Nice, the Stash Scott CD, diggin' it.
Avatar 2:22pm
Mr Fab:

can't have a dead man's party without him. he's performing a live accompaniment to "Nightmare Before Christmas" here in LA, with Billie Eilish. Which is all well and good, but I'll stick with my memories of a few years ago, seeing him do it with the orig cast members Catherine O'Hara and Pee Wee Herman. And Tim Burton came out to speak. THAT was a night.
Avatar 2:22pm
Rubberband Girl:

@Fab, is that the first time you've made that joke?! Good one.
Avatar 2:23pm
Rubberband Girl:

Wowza! Sounds incredible.
Avatar 2:24pm
Mr Fab:

ha, don't know, I frequently recycle my material.

Yeah, it was great. At the Hollywood Bowl. Then he and some old BOingo bandmates did a few songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Otis:

Nice mix RG!

My favorite rendition of this is Shirley Bassey's (which I will play at a later date sometimes) re: Eyes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Otis:

My Nana had this Engelbert album. Memories of the 70s and a (probably) Sanyo or Sylvania stereo system.
Avatar 2:37pm
Mr Fab:

the brassy Miss Bassey pretty much knocked everything out of the park. After she did a song, it needed to be retired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Jan Turkenburg:

fun vibra slap sound at the end of 'spooky'!
Avatar 2:40pm
Rubberband Girl:

Yes, Jan – that is my favorite part!! It comes too late and leaves too soon.
Avatar 2:44pm

I am such a nut for 70s Percy Faith albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Otis:

Heyyyy Rich!
Avatar 2:49pm
Rubberband Girl:

Yes, Otis! The Enoch Light 70's stuff is also mind-blowing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Otis:

Canada represent Percy. Get funky with it.

Have a nice shelf of Enoch related here, big fan. Project 3 late 60s and early 70s big time. Mutual Admiration Society here.
Avatar 2:52pm
Rubberband Girl:

This Sil Austin is also a banger! Most of this record is mellower, though. Still a gem.
Avatar 2:54pm
Rubberband Girl:

This LP cover is rated PG-13 for nudity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Otis:

I have one record on SSS International, Bergen White which I love... but have not run across any others on the label. That Sil track was full of Sax!
