	3:24pm spodiodi: glad to be hearing this show. last i spoke with my mother, she asked me if i still listened to The Monkees, and that every time she and my stepfather heard them (lately), or mention of them, he'd ask her the same. their greatest hits album was my first lp (xmas, age 5 c 76) i love The Monkees!

	3:30pm Funky16Corners: I think you'll find a LOT of Monkees fans (and a couple of experts) on WFMU and the streams, including Andrew Sandoval, who sets up the Monkees most recent tour, and has published a comprehensive history of the band.

	3:33pm Funky16Corners: I was telling my sons the other day that I first experienced the Monkees on Saturday mornings, when the series was rerun in the late 60s/early 70s, right after the cartoons.

	3:35pm Erica: The late 60s/early 70s was when the Monkees was aimed at children. And New songs replaced older ones in the show.

	3:35pm Funky16Corners: @Erica - I think the reruns on Antenna TV are the original episodes
	3:35pm Erica: I learned this a decade ago when I was going through a Monkees obsession during my senior year of high school.
	3:37pm Erica: MeTV aired the Monkees episodes when Peter York died too. I believe they were DVD prints of the episodes as they was higher quality.
	3:37pm Moog1 Radio: I discovered Head in the late 80s and still watch it religiously to this day. I had a chance to see the Criterion Blu Ray version. It knocked my socks off.

	3:38pm Moog1 Radio: I was told it was only available as part of an Easy Rider box set
	3:39pm Funky16Corners: Rockula was on cable today and I went down a Toni Basil rabbit hole, including her dancing with Davy in Head
	3:39pm Erica: Antenna TV aired an edited syndicated package of Monkees episodes as some scenes were censored or edited out and some scenes were in sepia tone.
	3:39pm spodiodi: i remember writing them letters ( i don't think i ended up sending.) Peter Tork was my favorite then (for whatever reason). i love She!!!
	3:40pm Moog1 Radio: Michael's Birthday sequence aka "The Cop's Dream" is my favorite moment in Head.
	3:40pm Funky16Corners: It's weird, because of how I first saw the episodes, I assumed the Monkees was a kids show (which I supposed it kind of was) but had no idea of their prime time success, which was when I was 4-6 years old

	3:43pm Moog1 Radio: Somebody uploaded a much cleaner and better sounding version of Carol King's Porpoise Song demo. It was never pressed as far as I know.

	3:44pm Erica: Also Larry did you know that when the Monkees were popular during the mid-late 60s there was session band called the Chimps releasing soundalike covers of Monkees songs as well as original songs?

	3:58pm Mike Sin: That Enoch Light Singers "12 Smash Hits" LP is something else -- it's amazing as it was geared to the "old timers". And, in the '60s, that meant anyone over 30!
	4:00pm Funky16Corners: Yeah, it's like the episode of Hazel where the kid forms a "rock" band and his aunt and uncle, who look like they're 28 start freaking out about the crazy noise, and the long hair and the "yeah yeah yeah" music. It's hilarious

Well as I'm sure you know that group of musicians were none other than the famous wrecking Crew, who did like 98% of all the recordings for all the acts of the day, whether they were solo, Duo's, trio's, quartets, etc etc

	🥁 4:47pm David Shortell: The Ribeye Brothers (from Red Bank) did a version of "Circle Sky" on their "Call of the Scrapheap" album 8 years ago. There's a good chance they'll play it when they appear at Asbury Lanes on November 20.

Almost all the acts were backed up by musicians on stage, and as for the Monkees they did play their own instruments. Mike and Peter were the pros, and Mickey and David were the novice. But they pulled it out of the hat and did all right.

Almost all the acts were backed up by musicians on stage, and as for the Monkees they did play their own instruments. Mike and Peter were the pros, and Mickey and David were the novice. But they pulled it out of the hat and did all right.
