	4:40pm Tinley Park Randy: Awesome tunes. On 1981 I was in 8th grade. I was just discovering music like this on WNUR (89.9) in Evanston Illinois. When everyone in school was into the Urban Cowboy craze me and my buddy were listening to Crass and The Effigies.

Glad you survived all that the fine fellow you are. 1981 - seemed people felt some new Musics were necessary, possible - even something to be enthusiastic about. @ the same time - Punk's initial explosion had begun to settle - & the Old Order failed to disappear despite its infirmities... Sounds familiar.

	🦇 4:43pm Phillippe: My family would've dissolved into dust if my mom had passed that early. My dad had mental health issues and would not have survived, no doubt in my mind.

	🦇 4:43pm Discotech Underground: I was a high school sophomore in 1981. At that time I mostly listened to old 60's music or metal like Ozzy, Iron Maiden or Sabbath who had Dio singing for them at the time. I didn't like the top 40 stuff and underground stuff was hard to come by where I grew up.

	🦇 4:49pm Handy Haversack: My dad was in his midsixties and suddenly had to be the main parent. It was a blow. He had a heart condition and throughout my life with him always had angina, but he never described it as pain, more as being "ill at ease." Over the years, I have come to suspect that he was actually depressed and was having panic attacks and should have been talking to an analyst, not a cardiologist about it. But it was the eighties. But we spiraled. He was waiting tables and then had health conditions that forced him to cut way back on work. We sort of lived like wolves. But I got very lucky with school and some other stuff. And here we are! No problem, Rev Rab, it'll be there when you have a chance. Obviously, you can ignore all the e-mails that aren't from me!

My dad had anxiety and depression; he could no longer work while I was still in high school and was collecting a very modest disability check. No idea how we managed to stay afloat. He also had the heart issues, had his first heart attack when I was in the first grade. He toughed it out until he was 83 though.

My husband went to a Jesuit high school in St Louis and learned Russian- in 1984 his Russian club went the Soviet Union. He was also on the Rifle team. Hmmm…he’s still waiting for ‘the call’. If the Russian’s invade, we’re in Brooklyn if you need a hideout! With candy!

	5:46pm Rich in Washington: I wasn't frightened of Russians when I was a teen in '81, but rather our batshit crazy president, esp. after hearing a Joe Cuomo radio show from WBAI on my local Pacifica station called Second Coming. In it, Cuomo built this case that Reagan was so brainwashed by xtian evangelicals that he was going to start armageddon with a first strike against the Soviet Union.
	5:47pm Andres: A few years later I gave the FM dial a spin. The DJ was playing Radio Ga Ga, decided he liked it and so gave both sides of the album a spin. It was hard to go back to top 40 after that.

	🦇 4:49pm Handy Haversack: My dad was in his midsixties and suddenly had to be the main parent. It was a blow. He had a heart condition and throughout my life with him always had angina, but he never described it as pain, more as being "ill at ease." Over the years, I have come to suspect that he was actually depressed and was having panic attacks and should have been talking to an analyst, not a cardiologist about it. But it was the eighties. But we spiraled. He was waiting tables and then had health conditions that forced him to cut way back on work. We sort of lived like wolves. But I got very lucky with school and some other stuff. And here we are! No problem, Rev Rab, it'll be there when you have a chance. Obviously, you can ignore all the e-mails that aren't from me!

My dad had anxiety and depression; he could no longer work while I was still in high school and was collecting a very modest disability check. No idea how we managed to stay afloat. He also had the heart issues, had his first heart attack when I was in the first grade. He toughed it out until he was 83 though.

In it, Cuomo built this case that Reagan was so brainwashed by xtian evangelicals that he was going to start armageddon with a first strike against the Soviet Union.
	5:47pm Andres: A few years later I gave the FM dial a spin. The DJ was playing Radio Ga Ga, decided he liked it and so gave both sides of the album a spin. It was hard to go back to top 40 after that.
