It's a laugh riot (to me) We're the same age age, but it's no exaggeration to say that we had a very different home life growing up. I saw him at some art book function and absolutely NO ONE was talking to him so I got to have his full attention for a good fifteen minutes.

I got hooked into working on this documentary about Marcel Duchamp. We we doing interview with lots of L.A. artists who ran in his circle back in the day. We were setting up a shot when the phone rang. My friend who was directing, asked me to answer it. "This is Dennis Hopper, where should I park my car?" My friend told me to go out and meet him in the street. Dennis looked kind of annoyed, but Dean came straight up to me and said "Hi, I'm Dean Stockwell! All three of us dug through our pockets for enough change to pump the meter so Dennis wouldn't get a ticket.

Hi, Lady Chanticleer! It's a rare Sunday that I'm able to listen to your show — and you just played a song that was in my head about an hour ago (Jackie Shane's version of "Any Other Way," to be precise)! It was meant to be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Franco Twinkie:

Dean sat in one of the widow seats at in the lobby of The Green Hotel and quietly looked at at a big lap crusher of an art book the whole time. Dennis was the star attraction that day.

@Franco Twinkie: Aw, good to see you, friend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Franco Twinkie:

Hardly. Dennis told a funny story about how he took a pair of side cutters and removed a sign from the front of the hotel and had Marcel Duchamp sign it at the Old Pasadena Museum of Art a few blocks away, where Marcel was having an opening.

Moby Grape!! One of my favorite bands to this day! They really did have it all! Songwriting, singing and playing (Jerry Miller is a main guitar hero of mine). I love the '69 LP.. Of course, their story is incredibly heartbreaking.. even though they improved the quality of more than a few lives. In a sense I feel Moby Grape and Quicksilver were amongst the few SF bands that didn't come out of the folk music tradition. Rockers from the get go.. Thanks for playing N!

Oh yeah, I became utterly obsessed with Brain after I heard it for the first time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yes! As a matter of fact Eve was there that day and told us the whole story. before Eve's shot, she had gone out to lunch over on Fair Oaks and lost her keys. I walked back to the restaurant with her to look for them. She was in a pretty bad mood, so I tried to be as diplomatic as possible when asking about her days as a groupie on The Sunset Strip.
Avatar 5:27pm
HyperDose:

I'm definitely the type who seeks out new music, then stays hooked on it for a while to really live in it. Then the cycle repeats where I seek out new sounds to make me feel whole again. Shows like yours, Stork's, and Gaylord's are great resources! 😊🤙🏾‍☮️

I agree N! "Sitting by the Window" is incredibly beautiful! The entire first album still astounds me to this day.. TDK60 yes, I agree! Much of '69 sounds that way.. Each member had a particular specialty.. I think what initially drove it all was that Jerry Miller and Don Stevenson came out of a hard core rockin' bar band 'career' in the Pacific Northwest. .Early on, Jerry Miller played with the Bobby Fuller Four. I believe he's still playing out in Washington State.. A close friend of mine from Tacoma goes to see him frequently.. though maybe not in the past two years and counting.. Hey there Andres!

Such fabulous and varied guitar playing in all contexts this evening N.! Always an education!! Thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm

That band that Jerry Miller and Don Stevenson were in, had a song called The Human Monkey that sounded just like early Moby Grape, but with really funny lyrics.
