Tiger Bomb  Eggs!   Favoriting Eggs!  Bandcamp Self Release  2021  Tiger Bomb is one of the many projects Duncan MacDonell has fronted in his time as a fixture on the Toronto scene. He assumed the "Doc Pickles" name as he emceed & contributed to the Wavelength Music Series collective he co-founded. He can be found variously under bands/projects such as "Doc Pickles", "Tiger Bomb", "The Jim Storie Juniors", "Mason Hornet" (one of my favourite Toronto bands who unfortunately never released any recording in their short time together.) This album "Eggs!!" was released Sep 2021. Doc Pickles Bandcamp  *   0:00:59 (Pop-up)

The Coneheads  Out Of Conetrol   Favoriting L.P.1. Aka 14 Year Old High School PC-Fascist Hype Lords Rip Off Devo For The Sake Of Extorting $$$ From Helpless Impressionable Midwestern Internet Peoplepunks L.P.  Erste Theke Tonträger  2015  Welcome to the "Egg Punk" genre. Coneheads existed only from 2014-15. Their first release was called "Canadian Cone", though they were from the U.S, in the Northern Indiana scene. The label that released this is out of Mannheim, Germany. This vinyl release has a title that takes longer to read than most of their songs. The Coneheads / Erste Theke Tonträger bandcamp    0:09:44 (Pop-up)
Letha  RR   Favoriting Demo  Syf Records  2022  Confession: I never knew "Egg Punk" was a genre until now. Apparently it is based on a meme. Knowyourmeme.com / Egg Punk vs Chain Punk --- Anyway, this demo came out on Jan 1: "You can't imagine a better start to 2022 than the tape of LETHA, a drum machine garage/egg rock band from Australia. Now available on cassette on Syf Records in a super limited edition." Syf records is based out of Szczecin, Poland, and describes itself as a "Mikro DIY lo-fi label." Syf ze Szczecina. Download this demo for any price you choose (including free) here: Letha Bandcamp - Demo  *   0:10:28 (Pop-up)
Debt Club  Southport Sharpest Weapons   Favoriting $0 EP  Bandcamp Self Release  2021  From Southport, Australia. "Debt Cult formed on the floor of VINNIES DIVE bar mutating from the sludge of Southport. Somehow managing to get somewhat organized and get together to record some music. Mostly making commentary on not having enough money and getting field recordings of pokie machines, Debt Cult brings reverb drenched guitars and Synths together to hopefully pay the rent." Tagged Punk; Devocore; Doll-Wave; Egg; Pub Rock; & Southport. So I guess Doll-Wave is a thing, too. Of course, this EP really can be bought for $0 on Bandcamp. Debt Club / $0 EP    0:13:03 (Pop-up)
Pensioner  Pressure   Favoriting G.T.R.R.C. III (Good Times RnR Comp)  Erste Theke Tonträger / Under the Gun  2021  11 seconds long, this is a cover of a Negative Approach song. It's from a 46 track cover album of various artists covering various artists. (Many egg punk bands here.) You can purchase for any price you want. Pensioner are from Perth, Australia. Pensioner Bandcamp Note: for some reason I can only find this on the Bandcamp page of one of the bands (The Gee Tees) on the comp: G.T.R.R.C. III comp / The Gee Tees Bandcamp    0:14:24 (Pop-up)
Spewed Brain  I Love You   Favoriting Depressed Dehydration Demo  Bandcamp Self Release  2022  Tagged as genres that include "Egg" and "Egg Punk". Recorded Dec 2021 (reportedly on a Tascam) at Planet Shag in Indiana & released January 7, 2022. Austin Sipes provides all music and recording. Spewed Brain Bandcamp  *   0:14:37 (Pop-up)
Daughter Bat and the Lip Stings  Chrissy Dins   Favoriting D.B.A.T.L.S.  Bandcamp Self Release  2021  From Sydney, Australia, Daughter Bat and the Lip Stings can more memorably be referred to as D.B.A.T.L.S. This particular release came out in Dec 2021. You can buy it for 2AUD, or, if you prefer, you can by their entire catalogue (7 releases) for 1.50AUD... So there's that. Tagged with Egg Punk, Devocore, Garagerock Sydney. D.B.A.T.L.S. Bandcamp  *   0:16:13 (Pop-up)
The Jimmys  Nightmares   Favoriting Eggy Pop MC  Fart Food Recordings  2022  A cover of the Jay Reatard song. This is from an album released 3 days ago on Jan 10, 2022. The band is from Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. In way of explanation, they write: "Some things never change. For music I like and bands of friends. And fart jokes." The Jimmys - Eggy Pop MC Bandcamp  *   0:18:10 (Pop-up)
Air Vent Dweller  Heat Wave   Favoriting More Love Songs  Bandcamp Self Release  2021  Egg Punk? Yes. Air Vent Dweller is a solo punk project from Salt Lake City, Utah. Recorded Dec 2021, released Dec 25, 2021. All songs written and performed by Charlie Pell (AVD). Air Vent Dweller Bandcamp    0:20:06 (Pop-up)
Dr Sure's Unusual Practice  Infinite Growth   Favoriting Remember The Future? Vol. 2 & 1  Marthouse Records / Erste Theke Tonträger  2021  From Melbourne, Australia. Recorded in Jan 2020 and May 2021, released in many limited fancy editions on Nov 5, 2021. Devocore Egg punk Future punk New wave Post-punk Robo-punk. Playing: Feb 11 Northcote Social Club Northcote, VIC // Mar 04 St Andrews Beach Recreation Club Saint Andrews, VIC // Mar 25 Altar Hobart, TAS. "This record was written, recorded and produced on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nations. We acknowledge that this land was stolen and colonised, and sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all First Nations people. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land." Dr Sure's Unusual Practice Bandcamp  *   0:21:39 (Pop-up)
Cherry Cheeks  Silica Bags   Favoriting Cherry Cheeks  Total Punk  2021  From a self-titled LP that was released Sep 2021. "Cherry Cheeks is the work of fellow Orlando resident (recently relocated to Portland) Kyle Harms. Started in early 2020, CHERRY CHEEKS was born out of countless hours stuck in front of a computer screen with a raging pandemic outside. Kyle put his boredom, boiling over anger, and frustration to work and started a new project... ...EGG PUNK, DEVO-CORE, QUARANTINE PUNK.. whatever the kids are calling it these days this is 12 tracks of bass driven, pop stained, punk agitation." Total Punk label / Cherry Cheeks  *   0:25:14 (Pop-up)
Bzdet  Remont   Favoriting Witam EP  Syf Records  2021  Egg Post-Punk also seems to be a thing. In this case... "BZDET IS BACK! Solo egg post punk, weird-wave, looser-wave, prank punk & kraut pain wave project from Szczecin. "WITAM" is a story about living in the block estates." Released Oct 2021. Once again, you may download this demo for any price you choose here: Bzdet: Witam Bandcamp  *   0:27:08 (Pop-up)
The Hahas And The Blablas  Andy Kaufman Is Not My Dad   Favoriting Two Short Songs  Vesela Kornjača/Jolly Turtle  2022  Released Jan 6, 2022. This band add "Andy Kaufman" to the apparently much more common "Egg Punk" and "Devocore" tags, as they should do. This is on a label from Zagreb, Croatia; as it should be. There are exactly two short songs on this release, which makes the title accurate. It is likely based on a true story. "The Hahas And The Blablas Bandcamp"  *   0:28:39 (Pop-up)

Callum Easter  What Do You Think?   Favoriting System  Moshi Moshi Records  2021  This Edinburgh based ex footballer has embraced Rock and Roll, as evidenced by this fantastic T-Rex inspired romp. System was recorded largely alone in Callum’s Edinburgh studio, but bustles with a brash, maximalist vigour, that draws a line under his previous work and charges exhilaratingly forwards – beginning a journey that he describes as a “descent into ordinary madness”.    0:37:56 (Pop-up)
Prison Affair  On and On   Favoriting Split      Prison Affair are from Barcelona but also identified as a lo-fi Egg Punk band. Judging by this themed mini EP and all other song titles, they either have been imprisoned many times, or wish to avoid it entirely. ALSO THIS IS AN ABBA COVER.    0:40:40 (Pop-up)
Erik Nervous  Nothing Is Happening   Favoriting Assorted Anxieties  Neck Chop Records  2018  Hailing from Indiana, Erik Nervous tics serious Egg Punk boxes. Twitchy, nervous, synthy, angular, humorous with a serious nod to DEVO. And the frailty of the human psyche.    0:42:44 (Pop-up)
Crash Course in Science  It Costs To Be Austere   Favoriting Near Marineland  Schematic Music  2011  Sounds like Electroclash...but MADE Electroclash. This band formed in Philly in 1979...but still sounds super fresh today. CCIS released an EP in 81, disbanded...and did not release Near Marineland until 2011, having sat on the material for two decades. Sometimes you just have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up with your genius.    0:44:36 (Pop-up)
Delivery  The Topic   Favoriting Personal Effects/The Topic  Spoilsport Records  2021  This band is from Australia and they deliver a restless and neurotic blitz over four tracks that fuses urgent garage-rock together with nervy post-punk and weirdo new-wave smarts. Thank you lockdown! You made this happen!    0:48:41 (Pop-up)
U-Bahn  Beta Boyz   Favoriting Beta Boyz  Melodic Records  2019  Nobody wears their DEVO influences more unabashedly and unapologetically than this band. Australia's U-Bahn came stomping into 2019 with a collage of glam-pop and new wave. Describing their music as 'nostalgia for futures that never came to pass; suburban boredom and sexual dystopias', the Melbourne 5-piece have thrilled and baffled audiences alike with their debut LP, teeming with futurist art-punk.    0:50:53 (Pop-up)

Selva

2020

Favourite People is a new band from the Brooklyn boroughs orbiting blues-rock with faint psychedelic radio waves. The band met in ‘International Waters’, the legendary after-hours club in the East Village and soon began rehearsing at Selva after a chance meeting with Quantic. Selva is Quantic’s recording home, built and conceived by Will and his partner Aziza Ali in Brooklyn, New York.

0:57:28 (Pop-up)
Beastie Boys  Egg Raid On Mojo   Favoriting Some Old Bullshit  Grand Royal  1981 / 1994  Beastie Boys started as a Hardcore band, mainly as a lark & not intended to last more than a couple of shows. At the time, they felt there weren't really any true NYC hardcore bands, and decided to correct that oversight. This was recorded on 4 track cassette then taped from Tim Sommer's "Noise The Show" radio program.    1:00:50 (Pop-up)
Iggy Pop  Eggs On Plate   Favoriting Party  Arista  1981  This is definitely amongst my (many) favourite Iggy songs.    1:02:32 (Pop-up)
Damaged Bug  Eggs at Night   Favoriting Hubba Bubba  Castle Face  2014  Damaged Bug is John Dwyer of the Osees in solo form. It was much more electronic than Thee Oh Sees at the time, but gradually the main & solo ventures started to overlap in sound & approach. At least, to my ears.    1:06:11 (Pop-up)
The Fall  War (Single Version)   Favoriting Middle Class Revolt aka The Vapourisation Of Reality (Expanded)  Castle / Sanctuary Records  1994  This is a cover of a Henry Cow song. It is a radical reworking, complete with a "egg" chant running throughout it. Evidently, since the original song mentioned an egg, it was decided this would need to be a constant refrain through the song.    1:09:10 (Pop-up)
Johnny Cash  Dirty Old Egg-Suckin' Dog (Live)   Favoriting At Folsom Prison  Columbia/Legacy  1968  Recorded live at Folsom Prison. "At Folsom Prison became one of the best-selling live albums of all time, reaching the top of the country charts and a defining moment for Cash." He would also perform & record another record at San Quentin the following year. Written by J.H. Clement.    1:11:52 (Pop-up)

Luz Morales  Ang Gatas At Ang Itlong (The Milk & The Eggs)   Favoriting Folk Songs of the Phillipines.  Smithsonian Folkways Recordings  2004  A Filipino soprano, Luz Morales has performed in operas such as Madame Butterfly and Mozart's The Impresario. In Folk Songs of the Philippines, Morales performs traditional songs and children's songs, with a guitar for harmony. This 1960 album contains songs in several Filipino languages, including Tagalog, Ilocano, Visayan, and Panpango.    1:24:19 (Pop-up)
Landline  Heart Attack   Favoriting Landline  Discontinuous Innovation  2018  Landline are Matt Ferrara and Zoe Zag. These songs evoke an air of a couple that kinds of hates each other but they know they’ve got too much chemistry to quit making music together. Landline’s self-described genre of “New Wave Punk Rock” is definitely appropriate, but it’s clear these two don’t really give a shit about genre boundaries.    1:25:43 (Pop-up)
R.M.F.C.  Television   Favoriting Hive  Anti Fade Records  2019  Proudly considering themselves DEVOCore (a huge part of Egg Punk) R.F.M.C is a project led by one described "child prodigy" Buz Clatworthy.    1:28:43 (Pop-up)
Smirk  Staring At Screens   Favoriting EP  Total Punk  2021  Smirk is the solo project of Public Eye’s Nick Vicario. He is influenced by Wire...but fuzzier.    1:30:27 (Pop-up)
Powerplant  A Spine   Favoriting A Spine/Evidence  Static Shock  2021  We played Powerplant last week as an "under the voice" during backannounce and quickly became obsessed. Turns out, they're Egg Punk. They let the world know "We are Powerplant – a synth-punk operation. We hail from around the isle and one of us is Ukrainian. Music we produce sizzles with synthesizers, giddy bass and barely cohesive lyrics." They claim to have met on 4chan and say that they experience back pain.    1:32:59 (Pop-up)
Lithics  Hands   Favoriting Tower of Age  Trouble in Mind  2020  This band has kept coming up for us in the algorithm. Sometimes the algorithm wins. LIthics Bandcamp - Tower Of Age    1:36:06 (Pop-up)
Alien Nosejob  Artistic Vision   Favoriting Paint It Clear  Feel It  2021  This music person is from Melton, Australia. It is is the solo project of Jake Robertson, of Australian punk bands such as Ausmuteants, Hierophants, Leather Towel, and SWAB. He writes a lot of songs. A LOT.    1:39:35 (Pop-up)
Jack Stauber's Micropop  These Eggs Aren't Dippy   Favoriting Deploy/These Eggs Aren't Dippy/Out The Ox  Plopscotch Records  2019  What if MGMT's second album had a little more self effacing humour and was a bit less serious? I get that vibe with JSM and this song in particular. Jack Stauber is American musician, singer-songwriter, producer, designer, animator, and content creator. His songs are oft used in memes which makes sense for this episode. His micropop format extends the original 30 versions of his songs and for that we are grateful. He is a TikTok star and his favourite cartoon is Rugrats.    1:41:54 (Pop-up)

Dry Cleaning  Bug Eggs   Favoriting Bug Eggs/Tony Speaks!  4AD  2021  Hailed as one of the greats of the emergent "British Person offering wry observation over good riffs in the style of Mark E. Smith", Dry Cleaning need little to no introduction or fanfare, for they are lauded by critics and fans everywhere. They formed in South London in 2018 and have changed music for the better and smarter. Yay!    1:48:04 (Pop-up)
Vanishing Twin  Eggs   Favoriting Choose Your Own Adventure  Soundway Records  2016  Broadcast, Portishead, ethereal, wonderful. All the things we like and a perfect closer. Vanishing Twin was formed in London in 2015 by guitarist Cathy Lucas. The band's name refers to the fetal absorption of Lucas's twin during pregnancy. Whoa.    1:51:27 (Pop-up)

I did buy Audio Operations last box of new HBB Pro Minidiscs last year.

@Kitten Sparkles I used to get them for a long time from Long & McQuade but sadly they no longer carry them.

I also raided every Radio Shack when the format went off the market and they were selling Sony's for $1-2.

I sing and produce. Also play drums and guitar sometimes. They have some stuff out, and I’m on some of it, but the newer stuff is even better. Dude is a great songwriter and singer, and the girl in the band is a great singer too. We have some things coming out in the next month or two that are really cool. Think you might like it.
