	8:38pm coelacanth∅: the outlaws were part of the popular kids' fare in high school. my downstairs neighbor, who was opposite of popular, went to a concert and bought me a t-shirt. it was black with a kind of cool logo so i wore it; then one day i heard the outlaws and said to myself, you have to stop wearing this!

BUT - I'm not even set up to rip A to D yet... So it was probly an old copy of 'Are You Experienced?' & I said - wow, old LPs sound real good... However - just now I'm getting out of like a lifetime's of Storage !! So I got the copies of Beatle LPs I grew up with & everything right here with me...

	8:45pm coelacanth∅: doctor (@837) they were, but i always thought it a shame that a Brilliant band like the Allman brothers (while there were brothers in it, and barely beyond) were lumped into that category, just because they were southern.
	8:47pm doctorjazz: True, Coela, Southern Rock bands did have wide variation (Marshall Tucker Band didn't sound like Little Feat, Allmans didn't sound like either). But from my reading, (I could be remembering incorrectly), The Allmans would have lumped themselves into the category.
	8:49pm coelacanth∅: last cd: in my car yesterday, bad brains, i against i. last cassette: in my car maybe a week ago, a yo la tengo compilation i made, entitled "the feedbacky"

	8:49pm doctorjazz: I still thought the Allmans post Duane were a fine band (saw them live only after he passed, unfortunately), but it's true that the band with BOTH brothers was transcendent much of the time.

	8:54pm coelacanth∅: sure, instrumentally...i personally didn't like the addition of keyboards, and i don't think there are any standout songs from Dicky or Gregg after brothers and sisters. just my opinion. i know they still had great shows. (which i never saw)
	8:56pm coelacanth∅: i like that you use the term "transcendent". i think Duane was the soul of the band, and Berry Oakley was the heart. and their absence was palpable to me.
	8:58pm doctorjazz: I liked Eat a Peach (which was hybrid, with and without Duane), but didn't pay much attention to the albums after that (I saw them with The Dead in RFK stadium, great show by the Post-Duane band)
	8:58pm coelacanth∅: (i say "was"...i was very young so it was a bit after the fact. in fact only learned of them after Duane died, when my brother brought home eat a peach)
	9:00pm coelacanth∅: yes even the 3 tracks with no Duane are excellent. and the next album i think still had some of what Duane had infused lingering.

	9:03pm doctorjazz: You'll get no argument from me, Coela, Duane was a one of a kind player, not replaceable. Duane DID put the band together, if I remember correctly-there was a good documentary I saw a while back on them.
	9:04pm TDK60: I had a thought that NRBQ was the first southern rock band, though not part of that; their 1st LP: 1969. Yes, Revrab I had that thought once. Rock is from the south, not Maine.

	8:47pm doctorjazz: True, Coela, Southern Rock bands did have wide variation (Marshall Tucker Band didn't sound like Little Feat, Allmans didn't sound like either). But from my reading, (I could be remembering incorrectly), The Allmans would have lumped themselves into the category.
