Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
tim from washington:

Man, Mark Stewart! I saw Gang of Four last week in Seattle. I took a deep dive into my thoughts about how amazing, unique and vibrant bands like Gang of Four, Pop Group, Slits et al were.

I was struck by how damn similar today is to 40 years ago. Gang of Four sang about the military industrial complex, the Cold War, consumerism, capitalism and poverty. Currently, there's a war raging in Europe that could teeter into World War III and Gang of Four were on stage in Seattle: mere miles away from the headquarters of a BILLION dollar consumer driven business that is built on convenience. Meanwhile when I left the show, one block away there was a homeless person sleeping in the doorway of an AmazonGO store. Not much has changed in 40 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Handy Haversack:

Yeah, tim, if this is late capitalism, it sometimes seems that that "late" is only really in reference to "too late."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
tim from washington:

I know that the juxtaposition of poverty and wealth is nothing new but seeing s homeless person sleeping in the doorway of AmazonGO in the middle of a city where modest houses go for over a million dollars really disgusted me. The fact that the person sleeping in the doorway cannot go into AmazonGO without getting their palmed scanned and having some stupid ass app just to get basic food items is unconscionable. OK. I'm done. I'll save it for Mark Hurst.

Hi all. @tim@3:33, re: WWIII, I see it as different than 40 years ago, what w/the rise of sinister super-kleptocracy directly attacking democracy, as huge chunks of the world are now controlled or (as here w/e.g. real estate in NYC) highly affected by billionaire kleptocrat oligarchs. There also wasn't asymmetrical internet-based information warfare 40 years ago. That's just the WWIII part, it doesn't really address the homeless person and Amazon...
