@Rich The reunion show in NYC was pretty wild in its own right-- Gibby got ejected halfway through the set for throwing a beer bottle at the sound guy, and the crowd devolved into chaos. @RevRab No offense, but Gibby doesn't strike me as a firearms expert, and accidents happen even with blanks.
Could you imagine if a performer did that in these times? Woof!

One of the times I saw the Buttholes around 86 or 97, Gibby nearly set the ceiling of the venue on fire by pouring lighter fluid into a brass high hat of either Theresa or King's drum set, lighting it on fire and hitting the cymbal really hard, sending a column of fire into the air and hitting the ceiling. He was just sort of staring at it between salvos, as if to see if the place was going to go up in flames. Pretty funny.

@Rich - the time I saw them the place DID catch fire! There was a curtain beside the stage and it lit up! The security jumped onto the stage, yanked the curtain down, and smothered the flames before it got too out of hand, but the damage was done, the show was stopped, and the audience was ushered out into the night. As far as I know the Surfers were never invited back to Rochester.

one of my favorite buttholes concerts was halloween at the chestnut cabaret in philly, I think 1989? and stage diving into the crowd with a us flag cape and red white & blue harlequin golf pants. that was also the show the guy in the wheelchair got into the mix at the mosh pit. yes rich the fire from the cymbls hit the cieling tiles that night too! the flames creeped about 6 feet wide

been missing some prime Surfers chat.

I suppose Gibby was doing that fire thing for years. At the Warner Theater in DC (great historic old place with much expensive tapestry thingies), he probably gave the venue staff a heart attack with that trick.

This was new years eve, around 1989. With Cramps & Dead Milkmen. One hell of an evening. Not an un-diluted pupil in the house.

William Swan, Jr.:

We have it from his personal cook and maid, Hitler's favourite meal was bite-sized liver dumplings. He consumed chicken broth beef broth soups. He did not have compassion for the animals and absolutely wasn't an environmentalist.

He did have an unusual aversion to actually seeing 🍖meat and was especially disgusted when he would see meat on bones. This was due to his bad experiences in the first world war. While serving in The Great War, he saw his brothers in arms blown to pieces by aerial bombardment. He saw the remains of their bodies with flesh torn off bones and bones poking out and flesh chopped up like meat. Adolph Hitler had post traumatic stress disorder.

These myths persist because journalists love irony and readers love irony too. For examples: Mr. Rogers really wasn't a Navy Seal. Captain Kangaroo wasn't a bad ass heroic paratrooper. And William Gibson bought a computer the first chance he got, "a Mac." It was true he did not own a computer at the time he wrote Neuromancer.
