Hallo, Jan (and fellow non-mountain climbers)!

I really enjoyed the Elvis movie - is it safe to say that "Colonel" "Tom Parker" is now The Netherland's most famous son?
Tom Hanks even spoke a couple lines in Dutch.

Candy-O'67:

Hey Jan, PK, Darryl, Mr. Fab! Mr. Fab, now I need to go see the movie!

Hey Mr Fab. Hey Candy! (loved your show the other week!)

Sitting in the vicarage garden. Me and my GF are house sitting her brither's house. Next to us the church bell is chiming the sixO' clock end-of work-day and I cannot hear anything of the music...

That show looks fascinating, Candy. Have not heard of most of those artists.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Was just about to write the same as Mr. Fab.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Now this song (She was married) sounds like a typical B-side, I think.

(that's refers to Candy's show, BTW)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I saw the Sex pistols' series episode yesterday in which they rented the shack in which Badfinger's Tom Evans committed suicide. In spite of the critics I think it is quite a good series.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Candy-O'67:

Yay, PK! Hope you enjoy it! I tried to pick songs that were not played on WFMU all the time and that fall into the genre I love of '60's garage, psych, soul and early '70's glam and powerpop! Most of these artists are from the South or TX. Hope y'all enjoy it!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I really am quite curious to listen to the show, Candy.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

How are you doing, Jan?
Avatar 12:20pm

Glad you enjoyed it, PK... personally I thought it was ok but a bit too cartoon-like
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I'm good, thank you ;-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Candy-O'67:

The Blind Owls are super fantastic live, too! You'll enjoy the story I have about them. Young awesome musicians from Corpus Christi, TX. Also The Born Liars are friend of mine from Houston. Have been in several "dirty" rock-n'-roll, punkish bands since the '90's. All their stuff and the other bands my friend Jimmy fronts have been great - Born Liars, Modfag, and Genzales, his current band. You can check them all out on Bandcamp! The Mullens are a great modern band from Dallas. They are great live, too!
Avatar 12:22pm
Mr Fab:

Very cool, Candy - I'm always looking for new bands to add to the Sheena stream. Tell them to send their stuff my way, if they so desire.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@ Darryl: I know that. But in spite of that, the editing is great, the pace of the series is excellent and I think the characters are well played. Sid was a cartoon character even when he was alive. Chrissie Hynde doesn't look the part though...
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Candy-O'67:

Awesome, I sure will, Mr. Fab!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

(and now back to our regular broadcast....)
Avatar 12:25pm
Mr Fab:

What do Dutch people think about Col. Tom Parker.?
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@ Mr. Fab, almost nothing, actually. Those who know his role as Elvis' manager and his Dutch roots think it's a shame he was so manipulative. We are not proud of him.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

In my opinion he was a possessive opportunist who actually significantly damaged Elvis' possible career.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Jan Turkenburg:

He was from Tilburg, wasn't he?
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

was there a time when Elvis and Cliff Richard were on equal footing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
MHLee:

I've always really liked this Stephen Foster song
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Cliff and Elvis were almost equally popular here in Europe, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm

Curious that they removed the race aspect from this song

That is at least what I remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
MHLee:

I think it's the use of flute in Dutch rock that gives it such a prog feel though this reminds me of the proto-Jefferson airplane Great Society
Avatar 1:25pm

That's funny, PK, and about as realistic as plenty of other Westerns.
