George Tipton has an interesting Monkees connection he arranged a few of their recordings and was instrumental in helping Harry Nilsson het to the point where they covered his songs.

At Liberty where George Tipton worked with Del Shannon and Bobby Vee, their covers were designed by Bernard Yeszin, who designed and photographed The Monkees first four albums.

I was a little Monkee Maniac as a kid and remained one every since. It was especially tough in the '70s to admit to liking the them because that decade was fresh off putting them down. If you mention the Monkees they would scoff roll their eyes and say that they didn't play their own instruments. Everyone would say that first thing out of their mouths with out fail.

Andrew, got here late so I didn't hear if you spoke about Perry Botkin, Jr. (other than the comment above). I recently saw an episode of "Ozzie & Harriet" which featured both Perry Botkin Jr. *and* Sr. Ozzie thinks Ricky's band could use a banjo player (him). He and Perry Sr. (also on banjo) worm their way in. By the way, they both could really play! Perry Jr. plays one of Ricky's band members.

This version still blows me away literally!! 2 nights ago I was watching 1969 "MacKenna's Gold" western movie and right away I knew Jose was singing the theme. Like the movie, the song had a LOT to be desired, yet Jose did his part fine.
