I was pitching for a political candidate near a polling place for a few hours, and a middle-aged couple yelled at me for being "divisive" and said we needed "unity". I was like, what candidate are you for? And they were "that's the problem! No candidate! You're dividing us!!"

Actually, I love to make fun of hippies, but I still wonder... *were* they hippies? The guy who yelled at me about abortion being murder was easy to write off, and the Russian guy who said we all just wanted free stuff and said that fascism would be better than communism was also easy to write off (though chilling), but that couple of "unity" weirdos will puzzle me forever, probably.

Although I'm skeptical (to say the least) about astrology, I recall reading an interview with Owsley Stanley where he explained his belief in astrology and damned if it didn't make sense. I wish I could find that interview.

Crumb's saving grace, for me, is his lacerating self-honesty. Plus he let my co-producer and I use some of his drawings for free in a documentary. "Use anything you want, and don't worry about payment." That was pretty righteous
