hiya Dr Jazz! This is the end of my marathon of fill-ins....

Only four more archives to get through. Those fill-ins keep me glued to the laptop.

ha! Have you heard the new show yet CS?
Avatar 10:04pm

Nope. Sundays are super busy for me and I just don't have any time during the week with my soul-sucking job. Sorry. :(

Understood! Just wasn't sure if you knew about it.

Hi Julie!

I kind of miss writing checks. but on the rare occasion I have to it seems like a big pain. It's like without the regular ritual anymore it turns into a real annoyance
Avatar 🦇 10:52pm
Julie:

Hiya Chresti!
Avatar 10:56pm
still b/p:

With occasional exceptions, I write just one check a month for rent. The little check ledger be only talkin 'bout
rent....rent....rent....rent.
Avatar 10:57pm
C.S.:

Still write checks for bills and donations. Still the luddite when it comes to online banking and smartphones.
Avatar 🦇 10:58pm
Julie:

right. used to be you'd write checks for it all so it became a routine. I don't have to write one regularly, so it's odd things here and there so there's no routineness to is. You're more likely to get paid if I have to pay someone else too. why take the book out for one?
  10:59pm
Androu B.:

I still use them myself for paying off credit bills. Best thing about them is it keeps you accustomed to practicing your handwriting.

Btw, I heard Modern English are playing the area at the moment. They'll be in Philly tomorrow and Asbury Park on Saturday.

Hi, chresti!
Avatar 🦇 10:59pm
Julie:

autopay really came in handy when my father was in the hospital. but his wife still had to write some checls but even that was overwhelming. most of the important thinkgs, like INSURANCE, got taken care of autopay
Avatar 10:59pm
C.S.:

I find that if it weren't for checks, I'd have no use for cursive writing at all.
Avatar 🦇 11:00pm

oh gosh did I miss the NYC date? Writing too! I miss writing and now it's a chore.

Avatar 🦇 11:05pm
Julie:

with the Bootblacks oh man what a show!
  11:05pm
Dean:

I *despise* auto-pay, and I'm reluctant to use online payment as frequently as I do. But the latter has worked out fairly well for years, including when I was handling my mother's finances. But auto-pay scares me.
Avatar 🦇 11:06pm
Julie:

yeah but just imagine being in the hospital for months and your insurance not getting paid
Avatar 11:10pm
still b/p:

CS, I wanna see you take your token out of one of those little oval plastic change purses to pay your Mattapan trolley fare.

YEs, when writing a check there's a combo of print and mutating cursive, and often my hand an pen have to stop and say, "Wait, we do what now to finish this letter and join to the next...?"
  11:13pm
Androu B.:

Julie, a majority of WFMU listeners are backing off of virtual currency due to what Mark Hurst has reported about them on his program Techtonic. You should listen in as well. Mark constantly has his finger on the pulse of all things related to digital tech.
Avatar 🦇 11:13pm
Julie:

Oh I know I love his show but I am way behind
  11:14pm
Dean:

I mean as a caregiver. I wanted to see the bills and affirmatively make the payments for the duration. I was not willing to make things "easier on me" by automating the payments, because I wanted to be on top of what was going on month by month.
  11:14pm
Dean:

Bottom line, it's horrible no matter how you slice it.
Avatar 🦇 11:15pm
Julie:

indeed
Avatar 11:15pm

@still b/p: When they actually had fareboxes that took tokens...they never collected a fare. Ha! It was nicknamed the free line.
Avatar 🦇 11:15pm

I was just thinking hey Dean might like this
  11:17pm
Androu B.:

I've been collecting Genesis records on CD for a while now. This one I don't have yet.
  11:18pm
Androu B.:

And of course I'm focusing strictly on the late-60's & 70's albums.
Avatar 🦇 11:18pm
Julie:

of course. This and Nursery Cryme aren't as known to me as say, Lamb
  11:19pm
Dean:

Oh, yes. Thank you.
  11:21pm
Dean:

If I *had* to land on a favorite Genesis album, the field would start with three: Genesis Live (yes, really), Selling England by the Pound (an album I played pretty much daily, sometimes twice, back in the '80s and '90s), and Lamb. At this stage I think I'd elect SEBTP.

I'm also a fan of some of their important bootlegs: Awed Man Out, As Though Emerald City, etc.
Avatar 🦇 11:22pm
Julie:

oh selling is GREAT. I don't know the live one much... are those with Gabriel?
  11:25pm
Dean:

Yes, and it was originally intended to be a 2LP set, including "Supper's Ready." Nowadays there's a file floating around that includes that track and the original mix.

Buddy of mine has a HUGE collection of Genesis tapes. He sent me hours of outtakes from Lamb and Selling England. It's so fun to hear them working out the tracks.

I like her solo better than her stuff with FM I think
  11:41pm
Dean:

Be more selective. I might even be able to find passages of Bruce Springsteen or Elvis Costello that I admire. So it is for Stevie Nicks, though I suspect a big reason is that she was with Fleetwood Mac. And Fleetwood Mac means nothing if it doesn't entail McVie, Fleetwood, and the assortment of songwriters, guitarists, and vocalists they have hosted.
Avatar 🦇 11:41pm

I feel the opposite about Stevie, I wish she had more songs WITH FM
