Doe Maar started out as a funny lyric/caribbean sound oriented band, but after bass player Hennie Vrienten joined the sound shifted to reggae.

Members of Doe Maar were part of Boudewijn de Groot's touring band and lived together in a hippie commune. They were very seventies, but as said, With Hennie Vrienten joining the band the more urban and more grim eighties lyrics entered the sound. Ernst Jansz, keyboard player, still maintained a little of the caribbean influences and kept writing more dreamy songs.
