A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

If anybody in LA is listening you should check out this event "Ambient Church" where Suzanne Ciani (modular synth pioneer) is performing live in quadrophonic sound inside churches with all kinds of video projections. we saw her in Chicago a few weeks ago and it was transcendent. there's a show in LA on Jan 20. @McGroovy Likewise, the news about Christine hit me much harder than I would have guess - i never had any time for the 'classic' Fleetwood Mac, but she always seemed like the one I could relate to. I suppose that music infused our culture, whether we liked it or not. Since yesterday evening i've really been enjoying exploring her earlier work with Chicken Shack, that first solo album, and the mid-period Mac. It was 21 years to the day after George Harrison died, which also hit me harder than I ever would have guessed.

This year I seem to just want fleeting pleasure gifts. Spices from Curio or Diaspora, local curries and pickles, maybe a special bottle of something to drink, and for my son to sit at the piano and sing the sad Christmas carol from BBC Ghosts with me. Ahhh forced meaningful moments.. hopefully he would enjoy it too but I won’t belabor it just in case ..

I've been making blueberry, chocolate, mango, pear sorbet.... I have just been going crazy experimenting with the ice creams. Making them dairy free and sugar free protein versions for myself. Made eggnog one for thanksgiving and that went over well. Re: Suzanne Ciani, the iPad she uses has Animoog synth on it. Its a great piece of software. I think she has effects units patched in as well that are controlled with custom modules. I binged watched interviews at one point, I can listen to her for hours.

@joshua, so success with the vegan versions? I prefer to make our own ice cream at home so kinda in the market for a maker..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
Joshua K:

Vegan ones have worked great. You can use coconut cream, or non-dairy milk. If you add fruit it helps thicken it. You can just use the sorbet setting and run it through a couple extra times. If you want to do sorbet its just fruit and a sweetner and I run it through with a blender before freezing. Thats the only down side to the machine is you have to prep the container in advance to freeze it because it kinda works in reverse to a traditional machine.

@Joshua K, thank you for the info. The old (dates back to 70-80s?) maker I have requires freezing the tub. The lid doesn't lock so I had to use a brick to hold it down. Never resulted in great ice cream so it may be time to upgrade and give away the old maker.

Vivian - I used to have one of those kind of ice cream makers too (minus the brick). Results were disappointing so I got rid of it. I've run cold and warm on Mac over the years, with a few favorite tracks and general respect, but in their peak years of intense attention and endless radio play it was just a personal reaction of "Enough! Enough! Enough!"
Christine's remarks in a doc on being good friends with Stevie -- when one might expect the spotlit success and storied conflicts to put them in a different relationship -- was pleasantly positive to hear and, I guess, reassuring in the world.
