Thank you Brian :-) I would say that the Ramones + Animal Collective start was exactly what my brain cells needed to go from "Sunday Sleepy" mode to "Academic Questions Checking" mode. Excellent show so far, Brian!

One advantage of being non-Finnish (and of being a chemist/materials scientist in an electrical engineering department) is that I only teach master-level classes, so never more than 20 people. My third-from-last doctoral student defends this coming Friday, so after that I just have one more course to teach and two more students to get through their Ph.D.s and then I can become a full-time banjo player.

very good running or walking you (one) has to move their wHole body, lift all that weight. Maybe I'm jus to lazy to do more walking and am a speed freque for that glide. Last month biking through Phila. discovering the outter regions of the city limits, Wissahickon Gorge et al. biking 13 to 26mls a day, dropping 30lbs, still tough to peddle over borough bridges, Brooklyn and Mans_hat_on still get me...

Michael of Cologne:

Yes, Brian, great punch line. At my small-town station 2KA in Katoomba when I was a teenager, we had a DJ who'd say outrageous things like "Christ on a crutch singin' Hallelujah!" Is that allowed in the hyporcritical-puritanical U.S.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am

Good morning, Brian. Ala, that's impressive. I run 2-3 miles. Maybe 4 once in a while. 3 times a week. It helps. Plus, I walk the Currents Canine Contingent.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am

Avatar 4:11am
Don in Tampere:

I had to drop running a number of years ago due to knees that were destined for trouble after I got hit by a car as a 14-year-old (one is already replaced, the other will need it eventually), but cycling, swimming, Nordic walking and cross-country skiing all work fine. During the warm part of the year, I cycle the hilly 9 miles each way to work when weather permits. Alan, I won't subject my students to that, but my first doctoral student actually asked me to play at her post-defense dinner party (calld karonka here)

It’s so complicated. I spent all day reading about the close relationship between Christianity and war then I dressed up like an angel and rode on a float in the holiday parade with a new age hippy church. I just muddle through.

I think that was my own misspelling, Brian. I don't know much about Grass. He intervened in politics to support Willi Brandt in 1961, the erection of the Berlin Mauer. Only joined the SPD in 1982, leaving it ten years later because of the party's policy on asylum-seekers. The Germans still have big problems today accepting Ausländer (foreigners). The right remains particularly rigid on the issue.
