Don in Tampere:

I decided a long time ago that a hangover is the worst possible way to start a new year (I avoid them anyway, which usually works because I don't like to get drunk - there are nicer drugs.....), so make a point of not going overboard. Ended up watching old movies at a friends house so that the sound would distract her dog from the noise of fireworks. We really could have skipped Roadhouse IMHO, but I'd never seen "Tommy", so could just enjoy the excess and silliness. And had never heard of the delightful Danny Kaye film "The Court Jester", which was a lot of silly fun. Today it's my turn to host friends for a South Carolina new year dinner of greens, balckeyed peas and cornbread.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34am
Brian D:

That menu sounds great, Don. I love that food. We watched "Charade" earlier this week. There's something comforting about old movies.

Michael of Cologne:

Welcome to 2023 Brian, Don, Lix, Fred & all chatters. Not so much hung over, but the wines were delish. The fireworks here in central Cologne were intense, louder and more colourful than in previous years. Must be 'progress' in pyrotechnics. We could see to the edges of Cologne. 360° colour-bursts for 15-20 minutes.

Ugh, can’t fell back asleep, since 4am. I thank Brian for the music and commentary- happy new year to all. My friend raves about hammered hulls. Now I see why. Lemme see what’s on the comment board…

Hello, Herb. Sorry you can't sleep, but great to "see" you.
Avatar 5:01am

Never heard this specials Zappa song- protest songs always be relevant. When will it change? That was a rhetorical question

Coincidence: I’ve had a funboy 3 pin on my pants for months. Then Terry dies. Sad, he was adamant about no one knowing how sick he was. RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am
Brian D:

Yeah, last I heard Terry was in the studio...
Avatar 5:03am

That was a super exhibit that pavement had in lower Manhattan, during their 3or4 bklyn nights at kings theater (shoulda gone)
Avatar 5:04am
Don in Tampere:

I have very mixed but increasingly negative feelings about the widespread private use of big fireworks. Some of the brightly colored rockets are nice to look at, but it's a huge amount of noise and chemical pollution, plus it scares the hell out of animals

This was crazy- B&S played forest hills tennis stadium 4,5 yrs ago. I got a ticket via a papering agency, $5!

Then I was told tix were way cheap for pavement’s kings theater, outside the venue

Oh Benjamin Netanyahu- I learned Hebrew in high skool. I should’ve asked mr price how to say “f u” so I could email that to Benny.

I kind of liked Slanted and Enchanted but didn't really stay a fan. A little too heavy on the slacker irony for me, plus I can't stand Mascis' singing.

Seeing B&S, fingers crossed, in March in JC, Herb.

John Doe told my friend that being in the studio w X could get a little hairy. Some are right wing. (What!). I last saw him at wfmu’s Monty Hall. Terrific. (It was awful sounding, up front on his right. I ambled up for encore and pix)

I think B&S sold out in nyc; let’s see what tickpick sez. Enjoy wash, dc, Brian (did I use an Oxford comma?)

Have no idea, Herb. Assume ambassador?
Avatar 5:40am
Don in Tampere:

Herb, as much as I detest Netan-yahoo, that sounds entirely too much to me like what the Catholic conquistadors did to Jewish people in Iberia in the late 1400s and early 1500s.

Hello Brian, and Happy New Year. I tried to throw in a few "light" images -- but they were hard to find, alas.
Avatar 5:53am

@Don - I don’t know my history (or geography, I’m an American), and groups have killed groups for many years (maaaaaany). “Can we just get along?”- kinduva pat answer, but how do we move on? Oh, almost 6pm
