Tidbit: Rick Wakeman broke in as a session player in London in the late sixties when lots of groups and producers wanted to try Mellotron on their tracks and he became the go-to guy to call because he figured out how to work with the slight delay between depressing the keys and hearing the notes. They’d get him in for sessions w/Mellotron, then discover what a great all-around keys player and musician he was.

That really old Laurie Anderson performance where she would stand out on the street wearing a pair of ice-skates frozen into a big block of ice while playing an electric violin with a bow that had recording tape instead of horse-hair and a violin that had a playback-head so that it would say something backward and forward as she bowed it, that was essentially a mellotron. (the performance ended when the ice melted enough to frre the skates) A mellotron is pretty primitive mechanical thing.

Oh, and Jimmy Smith lived down the dirt road from me for a while. I wandered his barn full of keyboard instruments many times.

BTW This tempo of 7/8 is typical for music from the Black Sea coast of Turkey, which includes folk music of the Laz and most especially the "Pontic" Greeks (nowadays mostly resident in places like northern Greece and um, Astoria Queens...)

See, now to me this is more jazz fusion than prog, but week by week here, I have realized my prog definition is narrower than average.

Yes. I believe so. A black squiggly line that looks like a waveform. I still have a couple of Optigan discs for some reason.

back in '93 or so I was living in this tiny house, that was actually a converted garage. address was 12 1/2..no kidding.

I was good friends with this pair of guys, one who was a well known auctioneer in Orange County, NY & his sidekick called Chickie.

One day Chickie comes in the bar & says to me "hey, you play music right?"

I said, "a little, what's up?"

He said.."I have a church pipe organ..you want it?"

I said Chickie, "you've seen my house, what do you think?"

Amon Duul was more of a group of squatters or maybe a political cell when it first started. Some kind of accidental anarchy that evolved into a band.

Was listening on phone, couldn't get logged in. On laptop now. -- Emerson banged the heck out of keyboards, eventually had to have carpal tunnel surgery or the like. That worked for while, but when things deteriorated again in the early 10s and he could no longer play to a level satisfactory to him, he deliberately checked out. Yes,he could have retired from playing, but that's not what he wanted to do.
