Hey, folks, Derek from lovely Beverly, Massachusetts. First time listening to this show.

A question for you, Jesse (hey, apologies...I'm a librarian...always want to learn stuff): why do think these hours, the 3-6 slot, works so well for music such as this?

I notice that this atmospheric music that almost becomes part of my environment just feels so...right for this hour.

In a few hours? Hey, Clay Pigeon all the way. Jumpy pop tunes. Great tunes from back in the day as well. Love the guy.

For now, though...nope, this is what I want is this kind of stuff, the same way that I want this stuff early Saturday morning (and hey, Sunrise Lamentations is there to meet my need).

Anyhoo, just wondering, in your opinion: what is it about this time? Are you a night person, or, like me, an extreme morning person, who goes to bed crazy early and gets up at 3?

Whatever the case this show just...works for this time. Keep it up, kiddo.

Also, that’s word Derek. Shows of these hours is how FMU caught me as a kid… Would always wake up to my kenwood at its quietest grinding away with such surreal soundscapes. Or brutal metal. Or endless industrial. Also the reason my mom banned FMU. One of the few nudges towards the door.

Eric: I had heard of WFMU for, literally, decades, and could barely tune it in where I lived back in the day. For a change, it's so nice to be able to find a place where technology has, really and truly, brought us closer to good things. In particular, I think of the community I've discovered on these boards; there are just wonderful people who come here and post.

Jesse: that's a really fun thing to say. You're making me think of Sara Anderson's graphic novel "Fangs," which is an adorable, yes adorable, tale about a romance between a vampire and a werewolf ("what's your type?" she asks. "Uh...I dunno, goth girls," he says. "No," she says "your BLOOD type.").

Anyway, I'm tickled at the notion that for vampires, your show is, like, primetime evening listening for a vampire party.

And now I'm imagining Tilda Swinton in "Only Lovers Left Alive" listening to this show in that really cool house in Detroit with Tom Hiddleston and all those cool old vinyl records and guitars.

Look, as I said, I'm an early, early riser, so I sorta feel like I have one foot in the dark world, and one foot in the world of daylight (I'm a school librarian who has a one hour commute, I write in the morning, and I have to sign in at 7:35...do the math).

So yeah, listening to this is sorta like being at that party, and, like showing up with a pint of my blood because I'm O Negative, and Tilda and Tom are, like, "that's so thoughtful of you."

Yeah. Something like that.

Derek. Agreed. I could somehow pick it up in Newburgh, where I grew up, only on certain days it seemed. Moved out west just before the internet happened and randomly found myself being “introduced” to FMU by a friend. Blew my mind. But as a kid, the diversity of sounds FMU exposed me to drastically altered my appreciation and understanding of what was really out there. And crazy valuable considering the changes media was about to go through….

Nah, Eric, nothing to apologize for. One of the things I'm so taken by these days is just how much choice there is, and how little people pull themselves away from today's world's distractions to realize just how many choices there are.

It's so odd that though there is far more opportunity to find a lot more different stuff, it just often feels, for most people, as if the only thing to do all day is watch TikTok videos.

And watching nothing but TikTok videos isn't that different from North Korea, where there's only one television channel.

With that said, there's just something so head healthy about this station, and, as I said, a number of thoughts and ideas that I come across on these boards, yours included.

Gee, your schooling us deep into the Italian pop-shlock zone = love it !
Is this one of your musical areas of specialization ?

I went into a deep dive with Lucio Battisti the other day. Some of his mid to late 70s-80s could parallel the vibes here. Yet imo, his 1970-1974 period is excellent innovative music & song.
Thanks 😊
