Andy Partridge: “Right, well Brainiac is the character in the Superman comics, the evil genius with the green skin and the sort of lightbulb screwed in his head. He was like a Martian Lex Luther and I thought he's be a wonderful psychedelic subject to write about, and his potential daughter: I don't think he had one but if he had she would have been, well, colourful, mauve and purple."
Alex Ross: "As silly as it sounds, this character is the combination of two songs by one of my favorite groups, XTC: "That's Really Super, Supergirl" and "Brainiac's Daughter." Apparently people assumed that her origin was from the coupling of old-time Legion lovebirds Brainiac 5 and Supergirl, and so, never having answered this question before myself, I'll go along with this idea." |

The current Hollywood writers' strike has revived online discussion of the TV show Heroes (2006-10) and myths of it being "ruined" by the 2007 writers' strike. But in fact, its decline in quality started *before* the 2007 strike. Fans hated seasons 2-4, but season 2's existing episodes were written *before* the strike. Some continue to repeat myths that season 2 was written by scabs, or that all the writers were fired after the strike; neither is true. Nobody hires scabs in Hollywood! The problem was that Heroes was originally supposed to be a yearly anthology, a la American Horror Story, but NBC thought the characters were too popular for that and nixed that plan, and the writers were not skillful enough to adjust.
