A frequent take I hear in art circles is that Jeff Koons is the heir to Warhol. I see that, but I think there was a deeper and darker side to Warhol that Koons lacks and replaces with frat boy vibes

There was an exhibition in Paris, Koons was very controlling, as is his right, but he had a "porn room" there and insisted on having women staffers there, who were subjected to much abuse. I think that was his plan, hence the frat boy label

re Bowie & “art docu” Moonage Daydream (2022) by the director Brett Morgan (who did that diff K.Cobain docu & the fascinating Robert Evans art-bio!). Well, must disclose i am a Bowie-boy from the moment my jaw slacked as i watched a ‘72-‘73 live TV performance as a young kid = Ziggy mode. Never looked back! Find joy, delight and beauty in ALL the diverse phases of Bowie. So admittedly, I’m not that objective. However, I was able to get to a large screen theatre to view Moonage Daydream 🤩😍. It’s one of those art docu’s that is partially a film-studies geekfest (includes a lotta vintage film clips & refs). It will not be as exciting on the tv flatscreen. Plays-out like an experience, as compared to the 3 other recent-ish excellent traditional BBC bio-documentaries that
span his entire life & career. For those more factual bios, try the following:
the Francis Whatley docu Trilogy =
David Bowie docu’s :
1. Five Years (2013)
2. Last 5 Years (2017)
3. Finding Fame (2019).
- all fabulous content.
* More than ya bargained for - huh ?!

Sauna is so much a part of Finnish culture that it's been named a UNESCO cultural heritage; unric.org... Since Tampere has declared itself (with some justification) to be the sauna capitol of Finland, the oldest public sauna in the country, Rajaportti, always puts on a celebration featuring local artists. It's fun playing for people who are standing around wearing towels and drinking beer. My friend took a couple of short loops with her phone so I might upload them to Instagtram pretty soon, but I'll check the proper video and recording later today and, if Pekko approves, upload some video to Youtube (ldonohkami account)

I think it smells more like burnt toast, but since my dear best friend really likes it, I have gotten used to it when she's visiting.
I love the word löyly. It encompasses so much: the act of throwing water on the stones, the rising of the steam, the way the heat spreads, usually from the top down, and the whole spirit of the thing. People rate saunas by the quality of the löyly, and Rajaportti, with 8 metric tons of rocks, is one of the best.

Erik/VermonT:

Yea, I haven’t found that A.Palmer, etc Bowie tribute yet. Only briefly sampled it. Is that a Hedwig guy collaborating (?).
That Bowie one and the Lou Reed tribute album came out similar years - I mist em both. Sumpin to look forward to listening to completely.
One of the WFMU dance DJ’s (i forget) played a stellar ‘ashes to ashes‘ Russian remix version I had never heard. Sent me down a serious rabbit🐇hole🕳️ with those ear-opening All-instrumental-versions of Bowie’s Berlin and beyond years mixes !
(His vocals dropped out of the mixes). It’s wonderful to focus-in on just the creative music isolated. The tunes are really quite strange as they are without Bowie singing. There a so many of them. I particularly recommend trying the denser last gasp art period of “Lodger” (1979) & ‘Scary Monsters’ (1980). They still sound so great even without the vocals. They are my pet faves - especially ‘Lodger’. Imo, way under-listened to & yet much appreciated. I posit that it truly influenced T.Heads’ ‘Remain in Light’ !

There <re two public saunas in town that are right on the shore of the lake Näsijärvi, and in winter they cut about a 10m hole in the ice and pump the water so that it doesn't re-freeze. There are heated steps from the sauna to the water (to avoid slipping on ice) sio you can go straight from above 90C to just above 0 C in a few seconds. It's incredibly invigorating, though not recommended with a severe hangover.

for some reason ‘Diamond Dogs’ 1974 didn’t send me like the albums surrounding it. I highly recommend, without equivocation: Hunky Dory, Ziggy, Station to Station, Low, Lodger, Scary Monsters, Let’s Dance, Heathan, The Next Day, Blackstar.
Btw: that cult film that somebody recommended via Abbie/Mars show titled “Abby” 1974 looks pretty wild !
