Q: How much longer before we hear any Radiohead on this program?
It's been 30 years (!) since "Pablo Honey" dropped. A band as complicated as this should at least have some honorable mention here!

Coolidge, Joron, and Noble are poets. Yes, it's the Clark Coolidge.

Our next house concert features Ouruboros, a free improv quartet comprised of Sheldon Brown (tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet), Clark Coolidge (drums), Andrew Joron (theremin) and Joseph Noble (soprano and alto saxophones and flute.) Three of the four (Coolidge, Joron and Noble) are poet-musicians, and Sheldon Brown has been one of the Bay Area's preeminent improvisers & composers for the past two decades.
Concert takes place Sunday January 21 at 4pm. Tickets are $30, payable in advance to secure a seat via PayPal (to my email address) or Venmo (@harry-bernstein.)

Composer, improviser & multiinstrumentalist Sheldon Brown has been involved in the bay area creative music scene for over twenty years. Among the groups he's founded are the Sheldon Brown Group, the Sheldon Brown Quintet dedicated to the music of Herbie Nichols, and Distant Intervals, based on poetic speech melodies. Brown tours internationally with Omar Sosa, and performs with and composes for The Clubfoot Orchestra.

Experimental poet and jazz musician Clark Coolidge is an internationally acclaimed poet and a greatly influential figure in American petry who has authored over 50 books of poetry and prose. As a drummer Clark has performed with numerous free improv groups including one formed by poet David Meltzer in the mid-60s, and more recently performed with Thurston Moore in Paris in 2013.

This will be Andrew Joron's second performance here, the first time reading along with poet Will Alexander, and playing the remarkable theremin in duo with Will Alexander on piano. Joron is a writer of experimental poetry and speculative fiction, and performs on the theremin in various free-improv ensembles. Joron has written an essay, The Theremin in My Life on the relation between his literary and musical activities.

Polymath Joseph Noble is a poet, essayist, artist, composer and musician who performs on flute, alto flute, bass flute, soprano and alto saxophones. His creativity across these multiple disciplines is sampled on his website.
Please let me know if you'd like to attend this concert.
Happy holidays, and hope to see many of you in the new year on the 21st!
