If you like Ethiopian music, The Ex' Terrie as a terrific label called Terp
Not as classic as Ethiopiques, more current (or not)
The Ex have done a lot to bring Ethiopian musicians to Europe (and maybe the US in some cases). Seeing Mohammed "Jimmy" Mohammed was a treat, and of course Getatchew

i will check that out, i think we've touched on this before... you told me about the rights of the music on
ethiopigues being bought outright and the musicians not getting paid.
i think i missed one or two opportunities to see 'golden age' ethiopian players in nyc
was first clued into ethiopian sound by hearing aster aweke in early 90's , but haven't found or really looked much for her stuff...didn't seem all that great

I don't know, I wasn't aware of Ethiopian music at the time. Mahmoud Ahmed's shoulder dance moves are great though (I saw him a few times, worth it if only for the local Ethiopian community showing up)
