Pierre Hébert | Around Perception | 1968 | National Film Board link "Watch an early experiment using computers to animate film. The result is a dazzling vibration of geometric forms in vivid colour, an effect achieved by varying the speed at which alternate colours change, so producing optical illusions. In between these screen pyrotechnics there appears a simple line form gyrating in smooth rhythm. Sound effects are created by registering sound shapes directly on the soundtrack of the film." | 1:20:46 (Pop-up)
Julia Murphy | Being Different | 1957 | National Film Board link "This short film from the late 1950s looks at peer pressure among adolescents, using the example of a 13-year-old boy who collects butterflies. While the boy adores his passion, his friends laugh at him, making him question whether he should pursue his interest or conform to fit in with the crowd." | 1:28:57 (Pop-up)

Aaaargh, really sad to hear that about the great Joe Flaherty. His Count Floyd EP is a prized record of mine.

Eugene Pallette, Walter Connolly, Aline McMahon, Frank McHugh.
I didn't recognize their names, but once i saw their faces, I instantly knew who they were.
Eugene Pallette as the father of Carole Lombard and Gail Patrick in My Man Godfrey (what a cast!) and Walter Connolly as the father of Claudette Colbert in It Happened One Night.
I don't recognize Aline McMahon and Frank McHugh.

"Do you have lots of geese?"
"Yes, we have lots of geese."
"How many geese do you have?"
"We have so many geese that we have to keep them on our porch."
"Then they must be Portuguese."

Here's the Family Guy clip on my Portuguese:

fred:
Speaking of idioms and weird language variants, a Brazilian friend once bought a table from a Portuguese guy, and asked if the legs of the table could be unscrewed for transport. The guy said "sure" and brought a saw, turned out the Brazilian phrase meant "saw off" in Portugal
