my mom's recipe, and her cooking too. she's pretty sweet (and amazing she's cooking at all at her age) because she makes it in three phases. My wife is allergic to mammal meat, so she starts out making it without the smoked ham and minimal spicieness and pulls some from the pot for my bride. Then she adds the ham and lets it cook a while longer and then pulls half of that out for the family members who don't like too much spice. Then she puts in the full Old Bay and lets it go for another while to get that to meld. She makes a couple gallons.

ya, I'm psyched for it, going with one of my sons. The Mitski/Alvvays should be fun -- Mitski is the damaged art-school type I spent my late teens/early 20s chasing after, so she brings back good memories even though she wasn't even born then. And Rhett Miller is on of the nicest musicians I ever met, and that band puts on one of the best shows I've seen

you should definitely push through it -- it gets more story-driven as it goes along. I didn't realize as I was watching it that it was originally intended to be a prequel to Treasure Island. I liked how they had both fictional and real pirates interacting. I did quite a bit of reading on the subject and the show production once it ended, learned more about the story and a LOT more about the real pirates.

i think it's safe to say all the guys (at least) who try to come off as badass pirates are boys that never grew out of disney!

i really like the arrangement on this, but the voice sounds like a text-to-speech device.
would be perfect with a human-sounding vocal.

particularly if you were stealing from other kids' candy hauls, especially the ones wearing 18th century merchant seaman costumes.

Yeah, I remember when Billy Budd was released and all the kids had to cosplay as Master-at-arms Claggart.

when I was watching BS, one of the things that troubled me was all the long heavy coats the pirates used to wear around Nassau. One would think they'd die of heat stroke before they were hanged.

when i first found my home in the divest bar in town here a significant % of the regulars was "the pirate crew". the bar had a reputation for being scary and repelled most of the college students, who had several other cleaner options.
they had pitcher nights -$3.50 for ANYTHING so i got a pitcher of guinness, poured a pint and wandered around. i had full intention to share it, but when i'd finished my pint my pitcher was gone. (duhhhhh)
so i look around and i see 2 "pirates" pouring from a pitcher below bar level. i go over and ask if they'd seen my pitcher, they said "no we bought this one but you can have some of it if you want!"
so i took the pitcher, poured my pint, then walked away with the pitcher.
ultimately became friends with the pirates.
...but yeah, they were role playing.
jack whatever his name was from that disney movie.

Nod to the pirate talk: my workplace had software ti find duplicates in a music catalog. For a meeting with Universal, my boss had the bright idea to ask google translate for the English for "doublon" (French for "duplicate") It came up "doubloons", so his speech was how his research yielded great sotware to find doubloons. I made eye contact with the American guys and we were so close to laughing
