↳ TDK60 @10:18
that's so funny! i haven't read that one, myself, but i recently started Cannery Row, and they say the central marine biologist figure in that one is sort of a Ricketts stand-in. what did you think of Sea of Cortez?

But it is a bit .., gloomy and pessimistic about the human condition? Shouldn’t the quintessential California writer (along with Jack London) be a little sunnier? But I’ve read that as he got older he got mired in interpersonal problems that soured him on people.

I can't wait for those stupid games to be over. First covid, then getting ready for the games, public transit is so crowded I can't read. Then again we might get a fascist government tomorrow (as in this Sunday) which would get rid of it altogether. Reading too, come to think of it

@fred well said, fred - they certainly seemed to be in Steinbeck’s case. He gave as good as he got, based on what I’ve read. He didn’t treat people in his life very well.

When you're a seasoned DJ you'll still fumble through it (thanks to balky equipment) but you'll get better at dealing with it. Meaning covering for it or not, whichever fits best

Maybe I can relate...I recently moved to a new position (not at all related to radio) after a decade doing basically the same thing, and am struggling with (quote unquote) imposter syndrome etc...but I try to remind myself that we wouldn't be doing this if the people around us didn't believe in us, and if fundamentally we didn't believe in ourselves. PMA!

TL;DR I really enjoyed the parts of the show that I was able to catch, thanks Cricket :)
