Montreal is much more suited to that -- staying downtown with a car is a pain in the butt (as it should be). The subway there is nice. In Ottawa, we stayed at a fantastic hotel in an industrial park that seemed very car-oriented at first but I was later stunned to discover there was a light rail very close by and it went straight downtown. But it's the summer, so of course it was under construction.

Run-down and beaten-up, but at least there were none of the mice that Yelp warned us about (!!!). IDK if it was just a misconception, but I was impressed that everyone we encountered in QC spoke excellent English. That wasn't always the case, was it? Maybe a generational change?

When I went to Quebec City, it was during the referendum (Quebec voted on seceding from Canada) it was highly hostile to the Anglos. Those days seem to behind us, and there is more peace love and understanding all the way around.

Montreal is much more suited to that -- staying downtown with a car is a pain in the butt (as it should be). The subway there is nice. In Ottawa, we stayed at a fantastic hotel in an industrial park that seemed very car-oriented at first but I was later stunned to discover there was a light rail very close by and it went straight downtown. But it's the summer, so of course it was under construction.

IDK if it was just a misconception, but I was impressed that everyone we encountered in QC spoke excellent English. That wasn't always the case, was it? Maybe a generational change?
