I heard Montclair but was too late to figure out which song he was referring to (I live here--good coffee spot btw)!

Mike in DC:

Despot's "Get Rich or Try Dying" samples a Chinese American folk song telling the story of immigrant miners, which might be of interest.

Sounding great and nice to hear sampling digging backdrop on tracks. First time listening and digging the show.

thank you, and welcome!! so glad you enjoyed that aspect today. the perhaps tenuous argument for the sampler as a (or even THE!) modern folk instrument is an Everybody's Songs pet obsession

I like that you emphasize your North Carolina connection, as a recent transplant here. I grew up hearing my mom's stories about living here briefly in the early 60s, thought I might move here when I was younger but didn't until a couple of years ago.

Hi Melinda! It truly is. Two weeks ago we went to the one in San Francisco a few of blocks from where we were staying. Walking home with a big bag of peaches I just bought is my idea of a perfect Sunday morning vacation activity.

I'm in Asheville. My mom lived in Durham & Chapel Hill and I thought I might move there, I loved it when we visited in the 80s but western NC beckoned. Many of my ancestors lived in other parts of NC before moving westward, I'm from Texas originally.
