	9:08am Handy Haversack: ↳ Charles in Chicago @9:04 We "do." It's kind of a farce. Since they can't find a contractor to actually make compost, the compost (which can include plastic bags) goes to the water treatment plants, where it is broken down and turned into slurry, and then the methane gas is just flared off into the environment. The local gas company was SUPPOSED to use that methane to actually power hundreds of buildings near the water treatment plant (we're two blocks away) but because it's a monopoly and not a real utility, they never bothered hooking it up. So it's just burned off. And then of course Austerity Mayor decided to cut all city funding to nonprofit neighborhood compost programs, so they all had to shut down. Don't worry, though: first-class tickets on Turkish airlines still flowing fast and free.

Since they can't find a contractor to actually make compost, the compost (which can include plastic bags) goes to the water treatment plants, where it is broken down and turned into slurry, and then the methane gas is just flared off into the environment. The local gas company was SUPPOSED to use that methane to actually power hundreds of buildings near the water treatment plant (we're two blocks away) but because it's a monopoly and not a real utility, they never bothered hooking it up. So it's just burned off. And then of course Austerity Mayor decided to cut all city funding to nonprofit neighborhood compost programs, so they all had to shut down. Don't worry, though: first-class tickets on Turkish airlines still flowing fast and free.
