In the case of Altamont it was The Grateful Dead who hired their friends, the Hell’s Angels, to provide security. The event had been planned to take place in Golden Gate Park. The Rolling Stone’s press conference announcing the show caused them to lose the permit for a free show, forcing the organizers to find an alternate venue.

Rita Coolidge said he was "a shitty husband, but a great man." Whatever. He wrote "Me and Bobby McGee" and that entitles him to immortality.

Meanwhile there were a lot of bands in the UK around London but they weren't all punk bands obviously but I read an interview with Mark Knopfler and he said just as they got signed punk exploded and they lost some of their footing. True though, you never think about what it must have been like to be in a pub rock band during the punk explosion.

The Rolling Stone’s press conference announcing the show caused them to lose the permit for a free show, forcing the organizers to find an alternate venue.

True though, you never think about what it must have been like to be in a pub rock band during the punk explosion.
