Favoriting The Radio Is Broken with Rich In Washington: Playlist from November 1, 2024 Favoriting

The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Senator Everett McKinley Dirkson  WIld Thing   Favoriting Wild Thing  Parkway  1966  Everett McKinley Dirksen (January 4, 1896 – September 7, 1969) was an American politician. A Republican, he represented Illinois in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate. As Senate Minority Leader from 1959 until his death in 1969, he played a highly visible and key role in the politics of the 1960s. He helped write and pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Civil Rights Act of 1968, both landmark pieces of legislation during the civil rights movement. He was also one of the Senate's strongest supporters of the Vietnam War. A talented orator with a florid style and a notably rich bass voice, he delivered flamboyant speeches that caused his detractors to refer to him as "The Wizard of Ooze".

Holy crap! We vote by mail in Washington, one of the handful of states that do. I got hinky about the burning mailbox thing so mailed it this year for the first time in a long time (I like dropping it off at collection boxes) and my vote was counted in less than 24 hours.

We have vote by mail here too but i didn't request a ballot in time. What they do here for in person early voting is you fill out the mail ballot application and they process it on the spot. I got mail ballots in Chicago all the time, dropped them off at a nearby indoor secure location
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Rich in Washington:

↳ Kat in the chat @10:04
Yeah, here I don't think you can vote by machine at all anymore. You can go to some designated polling places and request a ballot if you weren't sent one (I know someone who helps houseless people vote) and fill it out and drop it off there.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Kat in the chat:

↳ Ike @10:04
We don't have to - see my response to Rich. I didn't request a mail ballot ahead of time, and I was afraid of some unforeseen calamity preventing me from voting at my neighborhood polling place, so I thought City Hall was a good secure option. They had some other places around the city too, but I'm actually pretty close to downtown (or "Center City" as they call it here)

If it's truly a pure coin toss in each battleground state, then Harris has a better chance to win, because the sure-thing blue states add up to 226 electoral votes, and the red states add up to only 219. I did an extremely unscientific simulation by flipping some coins for each battleground state and got 16 Harris wins and 9 Trump wins out of 25. So 64%-36%. (However, that doesn't account for how similar states often go the same way, like PA, MI, and WI did in 2016.)
