	8:06pm postconsumer: well my son and I used to listen to a christmas record before bedtime, when he was very young. not sure we're doing that anymore.

	👻 8:07pm Austin Rich: My partner does a lot of holiday baking. We try to watch old Xmas movies, filling in anything we haven't seen yet this season. Lots of decorating and holiday music.We do everything buy the religious part. (And we have no kids, so it's just us.)

	8:09pm postconsumer: we're on a budget this year, we're extra busy this year and for a variety of other reasons, the spirit is fairly low, compared to previous years, BUT i did get the bubble lights out yesterday, and I have a nice dinner planned for tomorrow.

	👻 8:11pm Austin Rich: There's not a lot of gifts this year, as we had to get a new Stove, and a new sing in our bathroom. But we love to decorate and give each other stupid gifts, and mostly just enjoy ourselves.

	8:15pm Krys O.: ↳ postconsumer @8:11 Polish Xmas Eve is meatless. Oof, I forgot the mushroom soup. Oh, well. That will be dinner tomorrow. I have Chinese food for lunch. That's my Xmas Day tradition. My mom went into the hospital a year ago today and she passed away on the 26th. I kind of dreaded this double whammy. I usually have a hard time with the commercial Xmas buildup. The 24th is traditionally a time of peaceful reflection as far as Polish Catholic traditions go. We don't do much on the 25th.
	8:15pm Kat in the chat: I haven't really done gift exchanges for a while now and I don't miss it much. It usually seemed more stressful than joyful. And I haven't worked regularly in an office since before lockdown, so I've been mercifully spared Secret Santa and white elephant annoyances. I make some extra donations this time of year instead.

	8:19pm Krys O.: I sent some gifts and a card to my oldest sister who is in a nursing home. We didn't get along much because of our age difference, but mainly because she has Cluster B Personality disorders. I feel for her though as she is having a rough time. She's 77.

	8:22pm Krys O.: The basic ideas of the Yankee Swap: Everyone chooses a number out of a hat, you choose from wrapped gifts in numerical order, person #1 has prerogative to usurp person #2's choice if person #1 likes it better, and so on down the line.

	8:23pm postconsumer: i used to do that when i was in my teens and twenties... I'd buy old cards at Savers (mn thrift store) and cross out "Ccongrats" or "father's day" and write in "birthday" or "christmas." I thought it was funny
	8:24pm Krys O.: I don't know if everyone's aware, but Darryl Bullock passed away yesterday. It's shockingly sad. Marc Campbell of the Nails died last week too.

Later on as a young adult my mom would ask what I wanted and I'd answer socks. That's the truth. My dear friends get me fantastic socks, tea, books, music, etc.

There was a lot of tension around Christmas, gifts, etc. The one good memory I have, I was seven I think? My mom decided we were going to make ornaments for the tree, and so there was red and green felt, and sequins, and rickrack with metallic threads... I think that's why I still do craft stuff.

	8:38pm Krys O.: About 8 or 9 years ago I discovered that my oldest sister threw out my mother's Xmas decorations which were vintage and included some made by my mom's friend who was an artist. I was the only one in the family who cared sadly.
	👻 8:38pm Austin Rich: ↳ Krys O. @8:35 My partner assembles baked goods gifts every year for the holidays, so all our friends get breads and cookies and stuff. She went to culinary school, and she rarely gets to use those skills outside our house, so she gets into it.

Although Chicago doesn't get snow like it used to when I moved there, it still gets cold and unpleasant and a lot of people don't clear the sidewalks when they're snowy/icy. I fall easily so that's been a problem. Less of a thing here.

	👻 8:07pm Austin Rich: My partner does a lot of holiday baking. We try to watch old Xmas movies, filling in anything we haven't seen yet this season. Lots of decorating and holiday music.We do everything buy the religious part. (And we have no kids, so it's just us.)

That's my Xmas Day tradition. My mom went into the hospital a year ago today and she passed away on the 26th. I kind of dreaded this double whammy. I usually have a hard time with the commercial Xmas buildup. The 24th is traditionally a time of peaceful reflection as far as Polish Catholic traditions go. We don't do much on the 25th.

And I haven't worked regularly in an office since before lockdown, so I've been mercifully spared Secret Santa and white elephant annoyances. I make some extra donations this time of year instead.

There was a lot of tension around Christmas, gifts, etc. The one good memory I have, I was seven I think? My mom decided we were going to make ornaments for the tree, and so there was red and green felt, and sequins, and rickrack with metallic threads... I think that's why I still do craft stuff.

Although Chicago doesn't get snow like it used to when I moved there, it still gets cold and unpleasant and a lot of people don't clear the sidewalks when they're snowy/icy. I fall easily so that's been a problem. Less of a thing here.
